Mostly stupid.

We should be paying for services rather than forcing companies to rely on ads. Especially when ad buyers that all too often become a tool of political control. $8/month is a perfectly reasonable price for Twitter.

The only issue is that you can't pay anonymously, with a crypto currency. Even dogecoin would be better than nothing.

Pay for relays, not Twitter šŸ«‚šŸ§”

Nostr at the scale of Twitter isn't a decentralized alternative to Twitter. It'll become a centralized alternative to Twitter. We need to improve the Nostr protocol a lot to change that.

I think once clients all do the relay discovery method (gossip style) we'll be able to scale horizontally!

Right now clients are too dumb but seems like the protocol itself can do it?? No?

I was told it was about the bots, so they don’t want anonymous users on Twitter

You have a valid point but as I understand it, paying for Twitter reduces ads, but does not eliminate them. As long as there are ads, advertisers can influence the platform.

This is reasonable except if you pay for the blue check you still get ads

> the only issue is that you can’t pay anonymously

that is by design, blue checks have two types of KYC - both credit card payment and phone number verification, with known burners blocked

that is the key to my issue with Elon’s blue check program, it creates an incentive to dox yourself: greater reach and engagement - going forward I expect the KYC requirements to get more burdensome, not less

Conditioning 101

The point of 8$ a month isn’t to actually profit, it’s to increase the signal for their advertising revenue, and decrease the noise bots create. The $$$ generated is just icing on the advertising revenue cake.

Agreed. There’s a reason Elon is paying the 8 for some of the well known people to retain a blue check. It isn’t just to troll

I would pay with sats, or even would get some USDT… but phone and Credit card.. NO NO. 10+ years after I still get messages from twitter asking me for my phone

This. People refusing to pay for shit is the number one reason the internet turned the world into a dystopia. No one political party, bank, or intelligence agency have reduced our freedoms more than our lazy refusal to pay for services.

People still use Twitter… weird.

ā€œthe only issue is that you can’t pay anonymouslyā€.

The death of Twitter right there, in one sentence.
