It's worked great for me. I've mostly used it for sharing documents, and some collab work. It's been solid for me, in those aspects. I haven't installed my own instance, but I've been considering it.

It's ugly but very practical. But they should decouple the frontend from the backend, and give users direct access to their private keys like nsecs or as 12 word seed phrases. Otherwise the different instances aren't interoperable with each other. Also, without decoupling the client and server, you are forced to keep using their web implementation, which is not ideal for most privacy conscious people. Another thing is, they aren't very pro-bitcoin, so the paid instances only accept traditional fiat payments which is terrible for privacy.
Another thing is it's a product, not a protocol. So creating another compatible implementation is not going to be very easy, and forking the mostly JavaScript code is not going to be easy either

Unfortunately no. ente.io is great if you only want to store photos, but collaboration + privacy is a rare combo to see. I have started to work on something of my own, but haven't made much progress yet

Just installed it. Available on Community Registry. Super easy to install and use (only tried it on LAN). However, it is a very old version. 5.1.0, which was released in Sept 2022. Packaged for Start9 in Dec 2022.
No further updates for Start9 since then. Most recent cryptpad released on Dec 17, 2024. Hopefully someone will take up the reins and update the Start9 package.
