Turns out, I was sleeping on NextCloud. The latest release js impressive. Might just work to migrate off iCloud.

Nextcloud is slow buggy trash. Use alternative like syncthing or the go version of owncloud

It does work pretty well. There were some compromises a few years ago, but I think it's solid now. I'm in the process of getting it fully self-hosted.

I will look into this. I’ve been using Google One and iCloud. Mostly have iCloud because of Apple One so I can have Apple Music and Apple TV

Also check out Owncloud. There was something fishy with Nextcloud, but I can't remember the details...
