I've always argued against the use of third-party virus scanners. If you're on Windows, Windows Defender does a pretty damn good job for what it is And it's actually built to work with windows.

I'm not really sure what a proper solution is for Linux though, if I'm being honest.

Windows Defender makes your laptop overheat and slows it down t o a crawl. DIsable the Malware/AV scanner and it's perfect

I haven't used windows in a few years. Ever since I left my IT job, I haven't really touched that environment.

Windows is malware. Best to avoid it.

It makes one wonder, doesn't it? Kaspersky has caught some very advanced stuff, but I'm pretty sure that was through Kaspersky Labs, not the antivirus program.

I don't think Kaspersky A/V is trustworthy, but then again, I don't think any corporate software is trustworthy.

Whether it's tracking, telemetry, advertisements, crash dumps, or any number of other things, it's just the kind of shenanigans I'd rather opt out of. I don't know which ones are actively malicious, but it makes little difference to me.
