Gods take away the discriminating intellect of a person when they wish to bring defeat to him and he sees things in a perverse manner.

देवाः devāḥ – The gods; यस्मै पुरुषाय yasmai puruṣāya – to the person to whom; प्रयच्छन्ति prayacchanti – (desire to) give; पराभवम् parābhavam – disgrace; बुद्धिं buddhiṃ – the intellect; तस्य tasya – of that person; अपकर्षन्ति apa-karṣanti – take away; सः saḥ – such person; पश्यति paśyati – sees; अवाचीनि avācīni – (things) topsy-turvy.
