Laptop just shit the bed, any recommendations for a replacement?
Would like to keep it under $2000.
Dont care if it’s a PC or Mac. Want the best deal.

Apple M1 or newer. Battery life is insane. Does “intelligence” if you need it.
That's a pretty big budget. You can afford a pretty beefy Asus with AMD innards for that. But that's only a suggestion because I don't trust any laptop enough to recommend
Thanks. I haven’t bought a computer in years. No idea what they cost.
I’d like to hear the answers to this.
I really love my Lenovo Thinkpad P14
I picked up a refurb m1 MacBook Air, 2020 version I think, for around 800. Decent enough for a general purpose laptop. Light, fast, great battery whilst having 85% life left.
I find the MacBook Air the greatest laptop I ever had in my life.
I just bought a Tuxedo Infinity Book Pro. Impressively inexpensive, but can't comment on what it's like it yet.
Other suggestion is System76, that is if you were to opt for a Linux system.
Windows wise I would look at the Thinkpad range, that tends to be closer to $2k.
For me a cheap Chromebook does the job.
"The job" being communication, record-keeping, and entertainment.
In terms of hardware I also have a software-defined radio for communication and a direct input box for music recording.
Between Android, Chrome extensions and web services I don't need any generic Linux programs but if I did I could install them (and have in the past).
If I needed to do video editing, statistical analysis, or gaming I would need a different device. I think for the vast majority of people something like what I have will serve them perfectly fine.
I've disabled all the Google telemetry in Chrome & ChromeOS but of course I don't really know for sure that I'm getting a private experience.
I sort of tried this, but I do need a bit more out of a computer for some graphics and video work.
I do agree, a chromebook or similar is probably enough for most, although the privacy aspect is an issue unless you take a lot of extra steps.
Lenovo Thinkpad X1 carbon Gen 12 preloaded with Linux... Cannot beat it
Thanks everybody for their help. I appreciate all the responses. I decided to go with my first Mac. Wife has one and we both have IPhones so I decided to go all in.
13 inch MacBook Air
M4 Chip
24GB Memory
512 GB Storage
$1,500 out the door

Have they changed how it requires you to have an internet connection or an apple account or whatever before you can boot it up for the first time
