Tonight’s movie trivia answer is Rock & Rule. A 1983 animated film released by MGM, directed by Clive Smith and featuring the music of artists including Iggy Pop, Cheap Trick, Lou Reed, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Deborah Harry.

The story is set in the distant future after humanity has been wiped out by a nuclear war, and the survivors are street animals, dogs, cats, and rats that have been mutated into semi-human form. A legendary rock superstar named Mok is on a quest to dominate the world by summoning a creature from another dimension, and a specific voice is needed to unlock the portal. He begins a talent search to find the voice, and discovers a singer named Angel in a backwater town called Ohmtown who possesses this gift. Her bandmates go on a roadtrip to try to rescue her, and save what remains of the world.

The movie was given almost no advertising budget and only made around $30,000 at the box office before being canceled. If you can find a copy, I think you’ll enjoy it. There are full versions of it floating around on the internet.

Wow! I have never heard of this movie! Sounds wild! You seen Daft Punk’s Interstella 5555? If not, and you like Daft Punk: watch it.

That’s was some truly obscure trivia … nice!

I found this link ( user tread carefully ) that seems to have it streamable. Thanks for the trivia ill prolly watch tonight!

Looking forward to your review!

Watched it! It was good! A little slow here or there by today’s standards, but I was really sold by the ending. I’m a sucker for conversion stories, I liked that the thugs came round. And I liked the twist on how they send the demon back: one voice, one heart, one song: not one exists. Clever. Thanks for the recommendation. I love interesting film, especially animation.

Now, the important question is: have you seen Interstella 5555!? Cause if you haven’t, you’ve got to see it. Surprisingly similar plot. I even wondered if Daft Punk picked up some themes from R&R. If you haven’t seen Interstella, I can send you the file if you want and can’t find it online.

Ah, fantastic! Yeah, it’s hard to find anyone with the kind of attention span we had 40 years ago. The first time I saw that movie was after my parents got our first VCR, which was probably around 1986. One of my friends gave me a bootleg copy of the tape. He used to get things from his older brother and I have no idea how they found these things. Pretty sure he also introduced me to Akira.

I have not seen Interstella 5555 yet, but it looks like I can stream it from DailyMotion (unless you have a better link), so I’ll put it on my weekend agenda!

Thanks for the sats! I’m SO excited that you have’t seen Interstella. ENJOY! Grew up on Akira. Saw it when I was 12 or 13, like a door opened. Had a love for animation ever since. Give me a holler after you watch Interstella, I’d love to hear YOUR thoughts. If you like Daft Punk/House/EDM/electronica it’s a sure win.

Attention spans are an interesting thing. Quiet contemplation is my M.O., I love analyzing movies (used to dream of writing/directing), and today so much is lost cause people pander to short attentions. Those long shots (well done) can be so nice. Good art value stirs the Soul from slumber.
