The story is about the vice of vanity, the protection of innocence, and the power of love. She just doesn’t know what it’s even about, so she points at things that look political because that’s the only lens she can see anything through.

If they wanted to tell yet another story about a “girl boss” then actually tell a unique story. None of the characters or themes align at all with what they changed it to. It becomes a chopped up pile of nonsense that’s derivative purely for the sake of stealing something successful that was made by someone else, just to push a political message. Elements, characters, and structure must SERVE the story. They aren’t arbitrary. So when you change the point (or never understood it) you butcher the thing that holds all of its pieces together.

Basically I disagree with everything she said because she doesn’t get the story, she just looks for things that seem to reinforce her vapid political view of the world, women, and men. And in doing so the team created a lazy, incongruous, derivative of a mans work, which only makes people who had no reason to think it, believe women actually aren’t capable of telling their own stories or being creative.

(Caveat: I have no great love for Sleeping Beauty. It’s kinda boring. But I am sick of the blatant bigotry and sexism to force down everyone’s throats the politicizing of every atom of the universe, and then the deeply lazy practice of taking a story people like and butchering it because a bunch of arbitrary details present the “wrong” political view for the people who can’t see anything deeper than “man good, girl not in charge.” It’s makes women look stupid. It’s insulting to the actual smart and capable women in the world.)
