Ha, right? This feels like the thing that we’re not supposed to talk about. Yet all of nostr is zaps zaps zaps. My next research is around why the Alby extension disappeared from Safari after being introduced last year. There are GitHub mentions of the feature but nothing about why it was pulled. For a company that seems to care so much about privacy (ie Advanced Data Protection end-to-end encryption) Apple sure does hinder newer types of digital experiences— Shenanigans! 🤪
Discussion
On the App Store side, one thing that seems clear is zaps on individual posts are considered purchases of content delivered in-app, and thus 3.1.1 of the App Review Guidelines applies—so in-app purchase must be enabled, and in the context of LN wallets that means considerable work with either Strike (or maybe ZBD) tooling, and some work on the legal side too, drafting terms and thresholds and such, as well as having the developer entity properly licensed for all this in the country of registration. So it's a tall order. And this requires KYC because of national laws. Zaps on profiles seem to be considered as more akin to bank transfers, and thus 3.1.1 may not apply there, but national licensing obligations may as it's still store of value. Research carries on.
