It should be illegal for books to have the bookcover art of their movie / TV show adaptation 😤

Punishable by death, ideally

Yes, but, no.

Yes but yes, maybe?

The book cover art on television or movies has been inspired by the writing so the author may choose to have the artwork and should be given this fit free.

As a reader one must embrace the artwork for a few minutes and disregard once literacy appears.

I think it's just cheap. And what about if it's athe estate and not the author? Maybe your point still stands. I think I see it more cynically, just cheap and perceived as an association with a more popular medium, with little regard to the actual text. (Obviously the film/screenplay may also have little regard to the actual text, a lot of film adaptations are poor and also probably quite cynically done too). It's an easy win in the reverse, the fans of a book are an almost guaranteed audience for a film adaptation. I don't think always/necessarily it is done with good intentions.

Because they immediatly block one's imagination of the characters? They kill the creativity?

Yeah, partly this and partly cos they look totally shite. Not that a lot of current bookcover designs look that much better. But still, they're the pits

I think about this with Anger whenever I see a copy of The Lord of the Rings with the publicity photos from Rings of Power on the cover.

I get angry every time someone reminds me that Rings of Power, Wheel of Time, and Foundation tv shows exist at all.

I really try to live in denial.

On the other hand, the official Houghton Mifflin release art was the best - although the Folio Society has made some beautiful copies. I own both.

There’s a Wheel of Time show? Days ruined.

Never heard of wheel of time, TV show nor book 👀

I read the series ages ago. Only made it to book 7. I think he ended up writing 13 or 14.

They literally fuck it up before the credits at the beginning of the first episode are done rolling.

Pisses me off. Rosamund Pike was a great choice for Moraine.

Where is it? Prime? Now I have to watch.

Oui. Amazon Prime. 🫤

🤙

Brandon Sanderson finished the last two books after Jordan died.

The Wheel of Time Amazon show was such a disappointment. Forever destroyed my trust in Amazon TV properties.

There are some lovely Lord of the Rings copies. Leather-bound pocket editions, illustrated hardback editions, and more.

Foundation was a great book series!! TV and films always dilute. So what. The show is m fun for the eyes, and kinda reminiscent. Consume both for max pleasure.

It restricts the space of my imagination so much ... On top of cheapening the book in my mind.
