I have a picture somewhere of my mother having to physically remove a fawn from their kitchen. He ended up hanging out around the place for several months until he went out on the 4 lane highway and got hit.
I can sell you a lgd for cheaper! Lives outside full time even in cold!
I've been wanting a dog too, but they might be with me when I'm away. I'm always on the lookout for entertaing ways of getting the deer to leave our plot alone.
I've also toyed with the concept of a sentry system that launches a drone to give chase, but that might not work. There are some brazen ones here. One of them didn't flinch when I approached.
My goal is to have a 3D (maybe electric too) fence before summer.
Depends how long you're gone. The lgds have a gravity dog feeder that moves with the sheep. Holds like 50lbs. You would have to train them not to dig in your compost cuz that was their moms favorite thing when she was a pup
