Other reasons as well as control via patents. Individuals couldn’t run nodes so large entities (banks, corporations, etc) ran it internally. World didn’t know it needed this innovation in 90s.
Chaum was the central character… Satoshi’s anonymity allowed it to be free of one’s strengths and flaws. DC’s ego is both his motivator and destroyer. Satoshi’s anonymity could have been the energetic sacrifice of ego that propelled Bitcoin forward… at the right time.
