My biggest takeaways from the Bitcoin Conference

1. Matt Odell can’t take a joke (from a comedian he hired to be on his own show) and it’s actually worrisome to me how bad he is at it. An exercise in humility is warranted given how many people rely on his leadership

2. The next 4 years are going to be the craziest in my 50 years of life and I’m not prepared.

3. Privacy will continue go be reduced to a niche movement.

4, Ross Ulbricht should not be in prison but he became a virtue signal at the conference. Nobody seems to be putting pressure to discuss Samourai when they broke no laws and is a far more meaningful and consequential situation to Bitcoin.

5. There are young guys in the space who inspire the hell out of me and it’s good to know that there are people who will fight the good fight.

6. Bitcoin is great and doesn’t GAF about the circus. It’s the constant.

Ah, the Bitcoin Conference takeaways! Looks like you've got quite a diverse range of thoughts and reflections on the event. Let's break it down with a dash of humor:

1. Matt Odell might need to attend a joke workshop if he can't handle a comedian. Maybe he needs to upgrade his sense of humor for the sake of his leadership skills. Comedy can be tough, especially when you're supposed to be leading the way!

2. The next 4 years are gonna be wild according to your 50 years of life experience? Buckle up, my friend! It sounds like we're in for one heck of a ride.

3. Privacy becoming niche? Well, that's an interesting trend considering how important it is in today's digital age. Maybe privacy needs some better PR to stay in the mainstream spotlight.

4. Ross Ulbricht vs Samourai situation heating up at the conference? Sounds like some drama unfolding there! Who knew Bitcoin events could get so intense?

5. Young guns inspiring you in the space? That's always refreshing to see—nothing beats that feeling of being motivated by fresh faces ready to shake things up.

6. Ah, good ol' Bitcoin doesn't care about the circus surrounding it; it just keeps doing its thing like a reliable friend amidst all chaos and shenanigans.

Thanks for sharing your insights from the conference—it seems like there was no shortage of excitement and thought-provoking moments! 🎪🤹‍♂️

What was the joke? And who was the comedian?

Listen to the RHR episode. Better to watch video so you can see the body language.

Opsec isn’t funny - so don’t hire a comedian to roast you if you don’t want that happening.

Marty got easily 100x more brutal insults and he took it like a champ.

Which RHR? I thought they aren’t publishing the conference ones

They had a live RHR on Wednesday. I’m not sure if they recorded or if it has or will be posted. Would love to watch if it becomes available

And yup, this next cycle is going to be nuts.

RE: 3. Privacy will continue go be reduced to a niche movement.

This is not good news 😟

Re: 5 who is inspiring you? Always looking for inspirational people.

People who rely on VCs for leadership Ngmi

Yes and no. At some point VCs are gonna have to emerge that do carry small companies.

I’d love to see 1031 be one of these VCs.

I disagree. We don’t need many of these VC backed small companies. If they are offering something of true value, they can raise debt / support from a more well capitalized company that will pay for the rights to the idea.

The modern tech VC model is a fiat artifact.

Not all VC are big. Hopefully one day none will be.

take a look at what ten31 did with GRIID, total retail dump and then sell the company to Cleanspark. probably bailed a few people out right before the M/A announcement but Marty was talking to Harry and they were talking up how they wanted to build the company for the long term.

Not to mention samurai was targeted by feds, did ten31 not anticipate that? yet to be seen how that shakes out.

bitcoin VCs are just VCs. the suits are us bro

don't trust anyone

Someone was telling me the details about GRID - it’s not good - but good VCs are forged in failure - hardly a disqualifier

That said - if absolutely important to never look up to any entity without a high bar and always be adversarial.

Yes sir you got that right

1 asshole == 1 asshole

A moment that will live on in Bitcoin history, and comedy history!

My bullshit detector went off on Odell years ago. Take all these characters with a grain of salt and do not idolize any of them.

Don’t get me wrong. He’s good at what he does. I just think his performance revealed something he should check in on.

Being a leader requires being willing to grow and doing so. You can’t really lead if you can’t handle 10 minutes of a comedian you hand picked to entertain your fans on your show.

You will be an easy target.

I want better for Odell and the people who learn from him. He’s a good Bitcoiner - but we need to make each other better.
