How to help to test nostr:nprofile1qqszfrv3m6acxyqy4ghuega2n74rntkrfg9sp4pmse94vul56gnul8cpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhs33xu96 at home:

1. Download, install, and configure a local Nostr relay (e.g., #citrine).

2. Download, install, and configure a Nostr client (e.g., #amethyst).

3. Connect Amethyst to Citrine as both the input and output relay. To avoid false positives, it might be better not to have any other relay configured.

3.5. Test that Amethyst is indeed sending notes to Citrine, that it saves them, and that they can be viewed in Amethyst.

4. Download and install nostr:nprofile1qqszfrv3m6acxyqy4ghuega2n74rntkrfg9sp4pmse94vul56gnul8cpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhs33xu96 from its GitHub page https://github.com/KoalaSat/samiz/releases, the IzzyDroid repository, or nostr:nprofile1qqs83nn04fezvsu89p8xg7axjwye2u67errat3dx2um725fs7qnrqlgzqtdq0.

5. Completely disconnect the device from the internet (airplane mode), ensuring that Bluetooth remains activated.

6. With all three apps running on the same device, start a session in nostr:nprofile1qqszfrv3m6acxyqy4ghuega2n74rntkrfg9sp4pmse94vul56gnul8cpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhs33xu96 by pressing the "Start Session" button.

7. Confirm in the Logs view that nostr:nprofile1qqszfrv3m6acxyqy4ghuega2n74rntkrfg9sp4pmse94vul56gnul8cpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhs33xu96 has received the test note that was created earlier (what is displayed is the note ID).

8. Create a new note in Amethyst and confirm again in the Logs that nostr:nprofile1qqszfrv3m6acxyqy4ghuega2n74rntkrfg9sp4pmse94vul56gnul8cpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhs33xu96 has detected it.

This covers the basics. If someone is lucky enough to have a second Android device, they can test further by following steps 1 to 6 on the second device. They should then be able to receive and view notes created on the first device from Amethyst on the second device.

Finally, here’s a video from a user showing how it should work:

Ok, not hating on Jack’s weekend project, but he’s already had enough press coverage.

So here’s Anthony Accioly’s coverage for nostr:nprofile1qqszfrv3m6acxyqy4ghuega2n74rntkrfg9sp4pmse94vul56gnul8cpz4mhxue69uhkummnw3ezummcw3ezuer9wchsxej3h9. That’s right - we already have a BLE Mesh working for Nostr, and NIP-17 for private messages and NIP-EE for groups, forward secrecy and all the other goodies.

So yes. Cool things are happening on Nostr right now. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Based.

I wonder if Jack had coded Samiz in a weekend it would have been mostly ignored by the press like what happened with all his other Nostr-related endeavors and even Bitcoin ones.

You never know what gets picked up by the press... Still, compared to the Anthonys and even the Fiatjafs of the world, there's a "Silicon Valley billionaire" centre of gravity that at least gives him a chance of being heard by the media.

Even after all this time, when you ask random folks about Nostr, other than "Never heard of it" and the typical answer about BTC and toxic sruff, "Isn’t that Jack Dorsey’s social media thing?" is still a pretty popular answer. Just like it was during Bluesky early days.

Not hating on Jack in any way though. In a way, if “Jack Dorsey did something” gets media attention and brings in users to try things out, then he’s doing us all a favour with his presence and endorsement (on top of the funding when he senses something might actually work of course).
