I’m having a hard time explaining to a colleague that Nostr is not a bitcoin protocol.

How should I explain to him that it is not a bitcoin protocol, it’s a protocol that integrates bitcoin?

Say exactly what you just wrote down. If he doesn't get it, then is he worth the effort to educate?

You don't have to implement anything related to Bitcoin if you don't want to. It's all optional.

Bitcoin is the native money of the internet.

Nostr is a message system that runs on the internet.

Neither are controlled by a company.

It’s a natural fit.

Not a perfect analogy, but email servers all speak SMTP. So, different email clients can all send messages to each other. In a similar way, most Nostr clients can speak bitcoin to each other with zaps.

Perhaps extend nostr:npub1sy70twa0vadtk8hjs6wt2hmfszduj04tw78ccs3ktmr9u99mfmqsj62srx 's example, by referencing attachments, in the context of email / the SMTP protocol...

Sending attachments is something the SMTP protocol supports, but emails are not obliged to contain attachments. As a matter of fact, the majority of emails probably don't include attachments...

Similarly, Nostr supports Bitcoin, as a feature, at the protocol level, but sending Bitcoin is entirely optional, and in the majority of use cases, it's probably not relevant...

Excellent addition to the analogy.

Don't.

Not that much similarities between #Bitcoin and #nostr . There is public key cryptography and a few other things. Your colleague might want to read this: https://blockdyor.com/nostr/

Hey jackass its not a bitcoin protocol like I said 6 times.

Why is that even a question? It should be as easy as saying that it’s its own protocol. There’s nothing more to be said about it.

Content, metadata, signature, that's it.

Your iPhone is not a credit card [protocol]. It is a device that enables credit card protocol usage.

How did your colleague get a job if they can't understand something so basic...

Don't mention Bitcoin at all. They'll figure out zaps on their own eventually...
