That's because immigrants are people and when people get on planes they usually take there baggage with them.
Immigrants have their own biases too. Sadly, the various -isms in the US and/or other Western countries only helps reinforce those prejudices. Plus, you can’t forget about self-hatred. I also think that there’s an aspect of adopting xenophobic/racist beliefs of their new country as a way to subconsciously align themselves with the perceived power structure and to quickly assimilate.
