In asía it’s relatively common to grab a drink from a street stall and walk into another restaurant and have your meal while drinking that drink.
The notion that I have to drink a drink from the restaurant that I eat at is a western phenomenon that is often justified as you need to clean the waste from the drink (ie a plastic cup/bottle or a can).
In actual fact most businesses don’t experience an increase in costs here. Staff are paid by the hour not by the bottles they clean up. What we focus on is the loss of potential income and extra work. But probably in an abundant world we might choose to focus on the the long list of benefits like:
1) someone came to visit and enjoy our food
2) they didn’t want a drink offered at the restaurant and perhaps the actual message is that the drink selection could be improved
3) a freedom was celebrated in that the person got what they want and value was gained for that person
4) allowing this behaviour creates community rather than walled silos.
5) what if someone bought the restaurants food to eat at a drink or dessert bar?
Bitcoin may just bring this abundance and I look forward to seeing the evolution of a world where increased profits is the main and sometimes only goal of a business.
