My grandfather’s advice on tough times in life:
“If you’re not gonna laugh, you might as well cry.”
I thought he was full of shit when I was 13. Pushing 40, that shit was profound.

My parents say stuff like that, and now I say it too.
We slowly become our parents.
Adulthood is learning to understand your parents.
I am coming to the same conclusion. Well put.
Funny thing is, I think this applies across all domains.
What is spiritual adulthood other than learning to understand God, who is our Father?
Obviously that process is never complete, but that just means there's no upper limit to our maturation.
Or learn from their mistakes. Can't blame them for being stressed all the time, parenting is tough. I had a lot of forgiveness processing when I realized that what kids wanted wasnt always the best decision 😅
your parents are but sperm donor and incubator. in fact...
This reminds me of the saying, “Anyone can be a father, but it takes a real man to be a father.”
The same would apply to Moms.
In the cases of adoption as well - the ability to procreate is separate from your ability to be a real parent.
