Because fiatjaf released nostr as open source software individuals around the world are able to build and iterate on the protocol without permission.

Open source software is viral in nature. It spreads and grows without a company or individual controlling it. With a project like nostr still in its infancy it is amazing to watch the power of open source collaboration in action.

People love to argue about which open source license is best. Fiatjaf’s license is two words: β€œPublic domain.”

nit: since it's a protocol, there isn't really any "source" to be open πŸ˜‰

It's still vital that clients, relays and tools are FOSS.

+1

Open source protocols are inherently more intelligent than closed systems.

Why does an open source project needs to have a license?

being given permission is cheaper than asking for forgiveness

It was just a general question.

*Software that doesn't have an explicit license is under exclusive copyright. That means nobody else can use, copy, share, or change it, even if it's sitting in a public repo on GitHub.*

Thanks for funding these amazing builders Jack!

Can't wait to see what this grows into.

NSTR - Nostr Strategy

now it needs a Bitcoin treasury

And that's the beauty of it. We can build what we want to make it into the protocol that we want. It's wild.

Need a curl or wget bridge that returns raw json given a note ID

I made this with https://github.com/fiatjaf/nostr-tools but it’s way too rough to publish. You could also look at the command line tools

My favorite one is WTFPL https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/WTFPL
