Seeing as you're my new gardening expert, could you maybe suggest a remedy for an alarming increase in little gnats showing up on soil around my herbs? Not insane number, but enough where you see them buzz around just by waving your hand close to soil.
Guessing fungal gnats from overwatering (I over feed pets too, what can I say) based on research.
Well I too have the same issue, definitely from overwatering. We got those little yellow sticky pads, going to see how they work out. I know its hard to not over water just put a reminder on a calendar. They will do great without the daily attention.
Ok great, I'd read the sticky tape but I start to panic when things start to slide and didn't want to do wrong response. I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to watering, still getting the feel for it dialed in as I go

The little yellow fly trap pad things worked pretty well to catch a bunch of them.
Get this! I was still seeing something eat lettuce at night, so I set up a camera and just now see the culprit is a little mouse. I tripled up my mesh cover and looks like he wasn't able to nibble through this time.
Or get a cat. 😊
Funny you should mention. There's a neighborhood cat that stalks the birds at my feeder often. He recently had his leg injured and is wearing a cast. Could explain the increased theft last few days 🤔

Mavis (the cat) is well taken care of by other neighbors. Owned by some crazy cat lady with half a dozen neglected cats, I'm told. It was them who took her to the vet to get fixed up (owner had no interest!). But yeah, should encourage her return

She was still in a giant leg cast last time we saw her. Been a couple weeks since, but likely still in cast since I believe she was supposed to have it for 12 weeks. A different cat sometimes comes around now. Hopeful for mavis' return soon.
