Your action is vital to keeping the 900 Mhz network open to all!

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is currently allowing public comment on a proposal by NextNav Inc. that would reconfigure the 902-928 MHz band used by amateur radio and #Meshtastic, and replace it with a backup GPS system.

At the very least, this is likely to disrupt range and performance of Meshtastic devices- but the implications could be far wider.

Crichton at Meshtastic has a detailed writeup (https://meshtastic.org/blog/meshtastic-opposition-to-nextnav-proposed-changes/) at the Meshtastic blog, as well as a published opposition letter (https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0071/3772/files/Opposition_Letter.pdf) from Meshtastic President JM Casler. We encourage all to read Crichton's post to get a full understanding of the FCC proposal and the negative effects it would have on the Meshtastic community.

Take action before September 20th, 2024

The fastest way to take action is to submit an Express Comment at the FCC website. Here is a direct link with docket number pre-filled (https://www.fcc.gov/ecfs/filings/express?proceeding%5Bname%5D=24-240).

I will meet FCC commissioner Carr this week -- will ask him to vote with the people!

thanks for highlighting this

I spoke with FCC Commissioner Carr yesterday to get his “no” vote

He’s leaning that way

Ha! I have a device that cost me about $25 that will totally disrupt their "backup GPS". The spurious emissions of my Baofeng UV-5R will be used for freedom! 😜

Unless they've made a new version of that since I had one, that does not do 900 megahertz. That is a 2 meter and 70 centimeter or 144 megahertz and 440 megahertz radio.

A friend of mine said this when I shared the Meshtastic opposition letter with him:
