I also must trust what people like you tell me that it's "safe". Sure I can ReAd tHe cODe but lets be honest while I'm familiar with firmware and kernel code I'm not going to know where exploits can exist, it's a trust game. Period.

If one uses a Fairphone with Murena's /e/OS totally Google-avoidant operating system, has one still somehow paid Google to avoid Google?

Hopefully not, but FP doesn't have any compatible US devices :( nor can you get them shipped over here anymore.

Thanks for this. Ill have to look into this. The unfortunate position is that my 6 year old device has better specs than it and a headphone jack XD. I don't really use the device for anything but phone calls and the occasional browser lookup but it'd be a shame go backward in hardware.

Maybe I should go back to carrying a digital camera with me.

It always uses multiple Google services and builds in privileged support for them unavailable to other apps and services, which is unlike the approach for GrapheneOS.
