Is it a problem that a new user will have absolutely no idea what DVM stands for? And if they did know what it stood for they would probably assume it's a paid service.
I do quite like the name tho.

You know, that's kind of funny because I was wondering how to approach this in an article I was writing about Nostr. I dusted off an old one that I was writing that was supposed to be an explainer of kind of how to use Nostr on a high level. And I had a hard time figuring out how to approach DVM's and I still don't really think I have a great solution. I do like the name as well. But if you're coming from a traditional social media experience and you're already trying to wrap your head around public and private keys, and then zaps, and then relays, throwing DVM's into the mix, assuming your client supports it is a whole nother can of worms.
I mean a client could just name them whatever they wanted to name them. I think amethyst avoids the term. Let me just doublecheck.
Amethyst also labels them 'free'. I can't actually see any that cost anything to use. Not sure who would pay for that either
Amethyst calls them Note Discovery, which is a good name. Less cyberpunk than DVM but also less confusing.
Just call them apps. Normies love apps. That way you can have apps in your app.

Just get the curmudgeon app!
Just get the cat pictures app!
Just get the "same 10 people from Primal" app!
...and then they will think they are free, with ads. Problem solved.

I think that makes it worse lol, not that you're being serious. But the idea of having yet another app on my phone makes me furious lol
I like the name too. But for normies, you need a name that’s self explanatory. Something like custom feeds? But less boring 😂
Feed add-ons? Interest feeds? Each client could have an "add-on store" that listed them (like Amethyst, Nostrudel, etc already do). Users can add them to their front end alongside global & following lists, giving them more options.
Topics feeds? Topics add-ons?
The store is a good idea. Like an App Store. Our normie friends will feel right at home
Sure, why not? Just gotta make it friendly, "App Store" is a concept pretty much everybody understands already.
Better to leverage a concept that people are already familiar with. Simplifies things
App store, add-ons with chrome etc. basically the same interface. It's a spec that already exists too, just needs an improved interface. Being able to add them at the same place as your main feed would be good. I know I would use them more if they were there, rather than buried 3 or 4 clicks deep in the app.
Like the how the custom feeds are displayed in Nostur. You set them up in the side menu but then they’re available at the top in the main feed. Or something similar

Yeah, exactly. Amethyst has a similar idea, a drop-down to select feeds, lists, or hashtag follows on the main screen. I think I've seen Vitor talking about eventually being able to do exactly this with DVM as well.
Not entirely serious or satirical. 50/50.
For US users it also looks a lot like DMV which isn't very fun
