just another dude on the internet.

is that glow-in-the-dark or bright-fucking-light

sure you have ā€œfreedomā€ but nostr is still social media

i have a pure vibes theory that it comes down to the collective will of the fans. Like a manifestation battle, whichever team has a greater net manifestation score wins

i look ahead and miss the opportunities right now

Don’t act in emotion,

in good times and bad,

for when the dust settles

the action remains.

Be fair and impartial,

both in good times and bad,

towards others and yourself.

For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

signal and feedback

Obviously everyone will cite it’s benefits but We went thousands of years without it so don’t overthink it

@armvz I’ll never tolerate ads on any medium, whether TV, radio, streaming, or websites. It’s a waste of time, it’s distracting, and breaks the flow and immersion. One of the reasons I’ve been torrenting for ages is to strip out ads.

(You might argue that even an ad free television program or movie contains product placement which is itself a subtle ad. This is true, so I guess I’m not blocking all ads.)

As for the second question of why I don’t pay for content, be it YT or Netflix, or any other…. First of all, the UX sucks. I don’t want to see autoplay previews, flashing screens promoting whatever woke victim class they’re pandering to that month, but most of all, I don’t like the idea of paying for a ā€œpackageā€ of shows, most of which I’ll never watch.

Now, if I can pay on an episode by episode basis for an ad-free experience, then in some cases I will make an exception and pay. I also am happy to pay $5/mo to my torrent seed box provider in the Netherlands. I also used to pay for UFC fights back in the day. Once they started embedding ads into the product, I immediately ceased paying for them and began torrenting them instead. I’d also be more than happy to tip money to the dedicated people who rip a show, strip out the ads, and make it available to all via BitTorrent. In addition, I’m content to tip content creators and podcasters directly for their work. In fact, I’ve done this with writers in the Bitcoin space. But to pay for some packaged streaming service with lousy UX and shows I’ll never watch? That’s insane. Not going to happen.

Appreciate the response, because it helps me clarify my thoughts on it.

I agree ads are distractions but I can understand why they’re a thing.

The other part of it is that paying for youtube would tell them that their platform is good when it isn’t.

There’s good content, but also a lot of trash and poor UX that disrespects me, my time, and my mental.

I’m assuming you mean communism and yeah listen I’m republican, and I think you see a trend of more republicans because government has gotten massive and bloated.

You need a government to work for the people. And that’s what some democrats (and republicans) believe in, that is not communism.

But i get your point, a lot of democrats are pushing for things that are the beginning of the road to communism.

It comes down to individuals. As with everything else in life.

under Clinton we had a budget surplus. I could say there are democrats who are like how you describe republicans, and vice versa.

But yes generally speaking, republicans are for less government interference and democrats are for more support from government.

Both are well intentioned ideals.

Factory work is actually way more satisfying than office work. Just comes down to how the company is run
