Follower counts don't mean much on Nostr, because #Nostr still has a significant adoption and retention problem. Nostr needs better onboarding and user-adoption campaigns, period—the numbers don't lie, and they haven't changed much in over a year (+ ~10k weekly users).

Nothing to worry about

#Nostr is still brand new

Like it or not, Twitter is a fucking awesome social media platform. Nostr needs to steal their algorithms as much as they can

What’s so awesome about it?

Reach.

When I log on to Twitter, I usually see 10 posts that are immediately interesting to me. Be lucky to see 1 or 2 on Nostr

I remember the start of twitter - it was the on boarding of government and corporate mouthpieces and the mainstream news pushing it, that got it started.

True. But now apps like Primal have a blueprint of what is great about Twitter. Can warp speed the integration of better algorithms (for each user to choose of course)

Primal seems like possibly the worst way to nostr

But idk, I haven't tried it, that's just from what I hear

What do you use

Amethyst on mobile. Gossip on desktop.

I tried to use Primal for a year and a half, and even now, they still have too many issues for it to be a viable second client for me. In my two plus years on Nostr, I maintain that #Amethyst is the best, most mature, and most privacy-respecting client on mobile, period.

Highlight and underline "platform."

Nostr is a protocol, not a platform. It's built differently, so of course it will have its own challenges.

It’s simply number of users

That’s not many people

I regularly go through the list of users I follow and unfollow many that appear to be inactive for 6 months or more. It is somewhat disappointing the number of people that try Nostr but give up on it.. And the last 2-3 weeks my feed has felt very quiet..

Maybe more people would stay if accounts could be properly secured with mfa? ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

Few. āœŠšŸ»

Many are only reading

Possibly, and bots, though "many" is a relative term. There have only been between 15k to 20k active daily users (daily trusted pubkeys writing events) on Nostr the past two months, and just a little over 40k weekly. Lurking does not help #GrowNostr—we need more participation and posts on a variety of topics, not just tech and Bitcoin, if Nostr is to be successful in the long run.

Agreed.

I do what I can as a humble pleb 🫠

šŸ¤šŸ™šŸ’œ

How can I keep track of this information?

Nostr's a single community of bitcoin & nostr enthusiasts. Many are noticing how its getting pretty cramped here for other ideas. There's pressure for a speciation event. If nostr's robust enough, it'll weather until the right implementation & signal comes around.

if its not robust, it'll collapse from users getting fed up with it :w_ouroboros:

My partner is a web developer and designer and I’ve been trying to get him involved in Nostr - but as he was signing up and going through all the flow there is a lot of friction. How can we help? Are there any other developers involved with Nostr in the Southern California area. We would love to set up a meetup to talk it over. I operate on vibes and for some reason even though I am new here I feel compelled to help.

We need more designers that's for sure. UX is lacking in many apps, specifically onboarding. I'd say just start contributing to projects you like or feel has potential, but could also benefit from a UI/UX makeover or enhancement

Ivy. Welcome to Nostr.

I’m developing an app specifically for Nostr onboarding. (On hold for a few months but about to pick it back up again) Would love your feedback and support.

wish I could help but I'm not a designer

The biggest pushback I get from people is that they are looking for THEIR networks and often don't want to have to build new ones from scratch. If you build it, they will come.

Last year, I was gung ho for ā€œsocial onboardingā€ as a way to solve for retention.

I even developed a client demo as proof of work.

Turns out nobody wanted to fund this. So I had to put it down, in favor of developing Grapevine with nostr:npub1u5njm6g5h5cpw4wy8xugu62e5s7f6fnysv0sj0z3a8rengt2zqhsxrldq3 .

So, now that we have a pluggable WoT recommendation engine ready to go…

I may be ready to try another push with the onboarding client. Spread the word?

I think most people eventually get bored of social media, including Nostr. The cycle usually goes like this:

Excitement & Exploration – They join, engage, and find it interesting, especially if it's a new platform with fresh ideas.

Routine & Habituation – It becomes part of their daily life, but interactions start feeling repetitive.

Diminishing Returns – The novelty wears off, and they start seeing the same types of posts, drama, and engagement tricks.

Disengagement or Burnout – They check in less often, only follow a few key people, or leave entirely.

Even on Nostr, which is more decentralized and free from corporate control, the core problem remains—social media is designed for engagement, but people eventually realize they're just consuming endless content without much real-world impact. The early adopters and builders might stay longer, but the average user will likely rotate in and out.

The only users or communities that last are those where people build real friendships or business connections, so engagement stays because of the relationships, not just the content. But even then, people naturally cycle in and out.

I'm getting bored of nostr too. There is also no way to search for other users around us or businesses around us.

It's up to us to keep Nostr alive and prevent people from leaving. The content must be interesting
