I have a jar of tallow face balm (tallow and essential oils).... Can I just scoop some out and light it if I need a fire? 🤔

Not exactly. You could use it in place of the Vaseline in this little trick video.
Generally speaking stuff like tallow and Vaseline don’t hold flame very well by themselves. You soak a cloth (wick) or cotton ball or other such easily lit object and not only does that object become water resistant but it now lights easier and burns longer.

Now for the TL:DR bit...
Wicks help this process buy providing a fuel souce for combustion to melt the solid, and then omosis sucks up the liquid to the combustion point where the liquid being burned becomes the primary fuel. Which is wht wicks burn slowly and in relation to the solid.

Yeah, that’s what I was trying to say but kept wanting to say stratify but then argued with myself for like 5 minutes as to whether or not that was the right word lol I’ve been up since 3am (it’s just now almost 7 here in North Carolina), and am 2 dips, 2 cigarettes and half an energy drink in lol
