To guarantee your notes will stick around on Nostr it is essential to run your own relay. Public and even private relays aren't going to hold them forever. Setting up and running your own relay isn't that difficult, and there are options for most hardware and all skill levels.

πŸ”ΉLocal Options on your PC or phone.

πŸ”»For your PC nostr-relay-tray by nostr:nprofile1qqsgzfdez8ksa9xmuvqg5zly3nl9e5xqkpvj8nllj9aw06ra4pqq3qcpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhszrnhwden5te0dehhxtnvdakz7qgswaehxw309ahx7um5wghx6mmd9uqdl3vp is a great option, available for Linux, Mac & Windows. Combined with jumble.social it gives you an all in one solution to store and view your notes on your own computer.

πŸ”»For Android phones use citrine, created by nostr:nprofile1qqs827g8dkd07zjvlhh60csytujgd3l9mz7x807xk3fewge7rwlukxgpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhszrnhwden5te0dehhxtnvdakz7auvdel It integrates well with Amethyst, jumble.social and nostrudel.ninja It gives you a local backup of your notes, and can even pull notes from other relays for a more complete backup. Complex setups using Orbot can even give you more private DM messages over Tor.

πŸ”»iOS doesn't currently have any options available afaik.

πŸ”Ή Internet Based Options

πŸ”»The easiest option here is relay.tools created and maintained by nostr:nprofile1qqs8eseg5zxak2hal8umuaa7laxgxjyll9uhyxp86c522shn9gj8crspz9mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejj7qgjwaehxw309ahx7um5wgerztnrdakj7qgkwaehxw309a3x2an09ehx7um5wgcjucm0d5hsvlnggv It is a hosted option, meaning you don't need to know how to run Linux or configure and maintain the relay software. Just set it up the way you want and use it.

πŸ”»A slightly more difficult option is Haven relay created by nostr:nprofile1qqsw9n8heusyq0el9f99tveg7r0rhcu9tznatuekxt764m78ymqu36cpr3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujucnfw33k76twwpshy6ewvdhk6tcpzdmhxue69uhhwmm59e6hg7r09ehkuef0qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtn4w3ux7tn0dejj7ne6u4e It is a fantastic piece of relay software, combining outbox, inbox and private relays, and the ability to import old notes. It even includes a blossom server for hosting your own media files. This will require either PC hardware with Linux installed, or a Linux VPS. If you feel comfortable managing a Linux server this is the best option, but is again the most difficult one I have listed.

if you are using a linux server, alienos is a good choice as well:

https://github.com/dezh-tech/alienos

What is the npub of its creator?

its me. πŸ‘€

Cool. I'll check it out, I hadn't heard of it before.

nice. yes, im not known that much, haha.

id you want any features, just open an issue on github or ask me on nostr.

I like the disappearing note model πŸ˜‚

You're are all set then. Maybe you need an auto deleting relay. 1 month and it's gone πŸ˜‚

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ the snap chat relay. That would incentivize some really bad shit.

Maybe it's needed πŸ€”πŸ˜‚

thanks for the reminder nostr:nprofile1qqsda2memtapc2lykjnd8t9px4ake2stw39lg6k49xj6u3jz3pteu6qpz9mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejj7qgkwaehxw309ahx7um5wfjkc6t5v4ejummjvuhszxmhwden5te0wahhgtnydamku6tndah8g6r9w4czucmp9ufnyhqy

I haven't run Haven relay yet but it seems from browsing the docs, its not "more difficult" but just more configuration steps, actually its pretty close to just running your own lightning node or lnbits server.

should be easy for just someone who's comfortable sysadmini'ing πŸ˜‰

If you can run your own node, Haven should be no problem 🫑 I've helped people with minimal Linux experience set it up on a VPS, it's doable.

sounds good! does it allow for a protected list of npubs to access the relay? i assume this is what the WoT is....

πŸ’― Run your own Nostr node.

Don't trust, REQ.
