Start9 is a very smart system. A lot of clever things happening under the hood.
If you’re really adventurous, you can package your own apps…I need to do this for the customized Blockstream satellite bitcoind fork of core sometime.
What's your reason to package your apps, are you going offline often?

Am I right in thinking that Start9 needs an ethernet connection? I only have wifi and I seem to remember that the Start9 developers don't want it to be used with wifi.

Thanks but I think I'll probably go with Ubuntu Server and move my node to that. Umbrel is annoying & Start9 looks a lot bettter but the Start9 guys guys seem to be opposed to having wifi used with their server so I'd rather go with something that isn't going to be needlessly difficult.
I got nearly the same one and dropped a 2TB NVMe in it for a bit more blockchain and file storage. It’s awesome. It’s only been offline twice in two years. Just got a BitAxe pointed at a Datum Gateway instance on it a few weeks ago.

Yes it does, through the community registry on their marketplace
Better than Umbrel?
In some ways yes, more secure imo. Less variety of apps but that is part of that security
