I can't wait to try it out

If I read the comparison table on the page correctly it seems the benefits they are claiming are the benefits of Taproot MultiSigs.

Hit send too early. Wanted to add:

Why not wait for other wallet suppliers to upgrade to taproot MultiSig and then use several wallets from different providers?

Relying on one single vendor in a MultiSig setup seems besides the point to me.

But then they couldn't charge you almost $500 for your 3 devices.

Not sure I understand what you mean. I understood one Frostsnap device costs ~150$. This is comparable to other HW signing devices like Passport, ColdCard, BitBox, JadePlus etc.

So both options (all from frostsnap or all from x different sources) would be similar in price?

Yeah I see your point, but then it wouldn't be just one single company making almost $500 if you could just use HWW from different manufacturers. Vompanies still want to make money of you.

I agree that compared to taproot multisig besides being able to swap out signers without changing your on chain configuration, I don’t see any major upsides. But I also am definitely not a Frost expert. 🤷

Well this looks pretty. Also, speaking for my own bag here, it’s nice how they use a lawyer as an example custodian for one key.

It doesn’t have the fees of a typical multisig setup. Does that mean it’s one seed phrase split into parts? I wish the website showed a little more info.

no, splitting one seed into parts is insecure.

I don't know their product specifically, but it probably uses a taproot multisig scheme:

This article is really good at explaining the details, but the gist of it is, with taproot/musig/frost you can aggregate the pubkeys and signatures (data that ends up on the blockchain) to one, instead of regular multisig where all signatures have to be provided separately.

Less data => less fees

Thanks, as one question gets answered more questions arise. There is no shortage of side quests in the bitcoin rabbit hole. If I’m understanding correctly, with a 2 of 3 setup, the stack uses one private key but the devices are being used for creation of the pub keys associated with that private key. If one of these distributed devices was lost, I could recover from private key, purchase another device and set the FROST back up. I’d imagine I’d need all the devices in my possession again to re-setup the frost multisig with DKG again?

That looks interesting

Sick concept, although bringing all signers to a single location has its risks.

I kind of like bringing the transaction compiler (laptop, phone) to the signers one at a time instead, so that the signers can always be physically separated.

I agree. But there are features of frost that I really like. Replacing signers or changing the quorum without changing the wallet is huge.

Agreed. I would never plug devices with cryptographic keys on a mobile device, not for serious money anyway.

Interesting. Anyone know what "✅ Simple T-of-N recovery" is? Sorry I'm a bit thick.

multisig centipede 👀

I gotta say this has to be the best multi sig set up for mobile I ever seen

what's the promo code?

🔥🔥🔥

Why is it better than a regular taproot multisig?

Adam was in Tokyo last year for a few days, we got to play with these toys. Great presentation, amazing product!! ❄️

Very exciting and big accomplishment, but woof almost $500 is a rough price point

*For 3 devices assuming a standard 2 of 3 setup

Pretty cool
