I have always thought that losing follows was a non-issue until I realized I had lost more than half of my follow list.

Nostrgram had a very nice feature that created multiple backups of the follow list.. this was months ago
One of the things I like about the Nostur client is that it detects changes to your follows list and asks if you'd like to apply the changes or revert to your previously saved version.
Usually feedback is directed at the social media app devs
it's not the numbers.
it's the quality of followers.
over on X i walked away from thousands of followers, created a new account, now have 30 TOP-NOTCH followers, far more engagement, and i am much more satisfied.
After losing half of my follow list I used https://follows.nostr.com/ to recover it and now I am happy.
i still use metadata to backup my follow regularly, was brutal to lose many and try to find again
