Part 8, the final part of my #AmericanRevolution #vexillology series: Betsy Ross
Although there is much debate about the origin story of the first US flag, it is believed that the original flag was made in June 1776 by seamstress Betsy Ross, when a small committee, including George Washington, Robert Morris, and relative George Ross, visited Betsy to discuss the need for a new U.S. flag. Betsy accepted the job to manufacture the flag, altering the committee's design by replacing the six-pointed stars with five-pointed stars. The flag was made “official” on June 14 (now recognized as Flag Day), 1777 with the passage of the Flag Act. Since that time, more stars have been added as states have been added to the union and the arrangement of stars has changed to fit more stars.

“Fortunate Son” by CCR is not a patriotic song guys 😂 It’s an awesome song, but it’s not patriotic, quite the opposite actually 😂
I really miss being able to listening to podcasts/audiobooks while at work
1. Art, as a whole, is not ugly and never has been.
2. Porn is not the problem that the right loves to make it out to be.
3. Being a dad has always been optional. It’s just that, when faced with the reality of actually being a father, people didn’t used to run away like cowards.
All the rest I agree with totally!
Part 7 of my #AmericanRevolution #vexillology series: Sons of Liberty
The Sons of Liberty was a loosely organized, clandestine, sometimes violent, political organization active in the Thirteen American Colonies founded to advance the rights of the colonists and to fight taxation by the British government. They played a major role in most colonies in battling the Stamp Act in 1765 and throughout the entire period of the American Revolution. The flag pictured below is the flag believed to be flown from the liberty tree and liberty poles erected by the Sons of Liberty during their actions and meetups during the Revolution.

Into your life it will creep

Step out of line, the men come and take you away”

Part 6 of my #AmericanRevolution #vexillology series: Pine Tree
The Pine Tree Flag (or the “Appeal to Heaven” flag) was one of the flags used during the American Revolution. It was originally used by a squadron of ships that were commissioned by George Washington as Commander-in-chief of the Continental Army in October 1775.
The pine tree has been symbolic in New England since the late 16th century, predating the arrival of colonists. Colonists adopted the pine as a symbol on flags and currency in the 17th century, including variants of the flag of New England and Massachusetts Bay Colony. Leading up to the Revolutionary War, the pine tree became a symbol of colonial resistance.
The phrase “Appeal to Heaven” is referring to the expression of the right of revolution used by British philosopher John Locke in chapter 14 of his Second Treatise on Civil Government.
Today, the flag is often used by the religious right and religious nationalists and a version without the text is the official maritime ensign for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

I think if you saw this person walking down the street and didn’t know who they were, anyone with a brain would automatically think woman and there would likely be so little ambiguity that you would not even give it a second thought
