If the CIA approves of Signal for use internally - particularly the use case of communicating with CIA personnel in the field - this likely means the NSA gave them a thumbs up. So this implies that bare minimum no other intelligence agency can defeat Signal's encryption. Does that mean the NSA can't either? Up for debate I guess, but quite likely no for them as well.
This doesn't mean the platform it is running on is secure blah blah blah, but hey, when you think about it this is a massive endorsement for the use of #signal

Working for a multi-national employer is odd, since I feel I have to start every Zoom call with a non-American with an apology.
A crazy person dismantling America makes sense. I mean it is a crazy person, that's what they do. An oligarch controlling portions of the political system also makes sense. That's what they do. But to have the crazy person publicly name the oligarch IN THE OPEN to help dismantle things and to name it after a doge meme is just insult to injury to more injury.

Pity the weather is kind of shitty today. Late afternoon the parks will be empty and barely any traffic with the superbowl going on. I’m playing taxi picking up someone from DFW this evening, even the airport won’t be busy - people schedule travel around this stupid event.
I've been told I've done some weird things to understand different perspectives. Yes, this goes really beyond the political left and right things, and into some very strange places.

While this blog post is from 2022 (after Roe v Wade was overturned) it is quite relevant to today - especially in light of current events and various protests. So I'm sharing it again. Normally I'd say "enjoy" but frankly it's sad I had to write it at all. Basically it is paranoid tips and tricks to avoid being digitally tracked by The Man.

For those that have smart devices in your home that you can name, are these mature names, or childish names?

I was mainly concerned with just the phone itself pinging a tower (with or without a SIM, revealing the IMEI to the tower and subjecting the phone to potential tracking by The Man).

Android and iOS both use A-GPS, which will temp turn on cell service despite being in airplane mode just to get a ping off of a cell tower and assist the GPS radio with satellite acquisition. In iOS you cannot turn off A-GPS, in Android you can but it involved invoking developer mode, go in as root then editing a low-level system file. And this has been the case for years - it's a feature.

If you were on the fence as to whether Mel Gibson was a nut job or not from his past statements and behaviors, don’t worry. His speaking on Fox about some type of water conspiracy going on in Southern California by the infamous “They” should really convince you.
Not linking to the interview itself because I don’t feel it warrants more clicks and ad revenue for Fox, but there it is.
Also, I actually believe in science, engineering, and trying to fix things like the infrastructure when it fails due to being over stressed - not simply blaming it on some conspiracy theory.

Bummer. Need a perm fix related to my solar and battery setup, plus I want to expand things ever so slightly, and my vendor-neutral local installation company apparently has gone under and closed doors permanently. They had been around at least a decade. Sad. Now the search starts anew. At least I can limp through the repair thing myself but it needs a perm fix.

Well fuck. The shit has hit the fan. Doesn’t matter where you stand, the next few days, weeks, months, and years are going to suck.
So work has been interesting as of late. Have you ever been told your job is evolving/changing yet when you look over what you are going to be doing, you're *fundamentally* going to be doing the exact same thing? I think the only difference is that I will have slightly more freedom. Yes #infosec seemed like there is always going to be work and challenges, but if you like the work AND they give you more freedom, well that's awesome.
Regardless of how realistic/accurate/reliable the assessment US government footage of UAV/UFO footage released in recent years actually is, I'd say the response from the public at large - which seemed to be "meh" - did surprise me. I figured it would get a bigger and stronger reaction.

I’ll assume there was a game tonight at AT&T Stadium as around sunset on the dog walk there was one private jet after another taking off from the local municipal airport (I live in between the stadium and the airport). What a waste of energy and careless contribution to the carbon footprint. It’s shit like this that causes me to wish for a complete ecological apocalypse just so those rich fucks get to see what they’ve help bring on. #ClimateCrisis #Sportsing #EatTheRich
This one hits fairly close to home - literally. GM employs around 5000 people in Tarrant county where I live, and I have neighbors and friends that work there. The Arlington assembly plant is GM’s most profitable, and between that and GM Financial having a few office complexes in the area, the company has quite a local presence. I know several in UAW union 276 and wish them sincere good luck. Having to work 2 and 3 jobs to make ends meet (as some of them do) is not fun. Good luck.

It is sooo good to be past the exceedingly high temperatures AND to be getting nice steady rain right now. We needed the break from the heat and with the drought conditions we really needed the rain.
