Thanks for the feedback, Jan.
A transaction fee based model could become an option. For now #albyhub is available for free if you run it on your own machine. Alby Cloud costs 10.5k the first 3 months with a money back guarantee for the first month.
My report from yesterday attempt at setting up a new account (for a friend) with #alby

Good feedback. Alby Hub is a new product. We are still figuring out to make the first steps for users easier. Once set up you Hub works really well with the Alby Extension, Alby Go and all Nostr apps.

I'm all about being self-sovereign. And you guys are even still offering to host nodes with Alby Cloud, it's just not free anymore, which I'm not sure it should be. There's a reason people don't host their own nodes and you make that easier with Alby Cloud.
I don't necessarily think it's too expensive, but it may become so if it remains at 21K sats per month.
We'll be more than happy to lower the subscription prices to reflect bitcoin's increased value. We all should get the best value for our sats.
Sorry for not answering earlier. Right the future of Alby is Aby Hub but there will be a very easy to use solution for first-time Nostr users, too.
Ah and we are regularly available at support@getalby.com :-)
I use Alby.
nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm Can you advise why people are having trouble zapping me?
I could zap you from my Alby Hub.
No worries. The Alby Browser Extension will have an easy to use solution for first-time Nostr users.
Right. Self-custodial bitcoin payments will unleash more use cases. Alby Hub is early but already an improvement. It's cool to see how nicely it works well together with so many Nostr apps.
Alby Hub replaces the legacy shared wallet. You now also have a mobile app with albygo.com. All three Hub + Alby Go + Alby Extension work well together.
#albyhub
Sure. Also give Alby Hub a try if you are looking for a zap-able wallet + browser extension + mobile app
We put a lot of work in making it easy for everybody to take control over their own bitcoin with Alby Hub. More improvements coming soon. Zeus is a great LSP in Alby Hub.

Exciting. Alby Hub is so much better for interacting with Nostr apps.
We'll publish further information how we make it easy for first-time Nostr users.
CSB I like you for your direct feedback. nostr:npub1yvscx9vrmpcmwcmydrm8lauqdpngum4ne8xmkgc2d4rcaxrx7tkswdwzdu is right on that one.
#albyhub (albyhub.com) solved offline receiving which is great for receiving zaps 24/7.
You can use it for free on Umbrel or Start9. You can connect your Alby account to Zeus and use Zeus to pay on the go.

Did you add your lightning address to your profile on Nostr. Alby or any other zap-able lightning address works.
The Alby Browser Extension is there and gets even better. You can use it with many lightning wallets such as Alby Hub.
Would it not be amazing if there was an easy way to support the people that build the libraries that we use everyday? And what about the dependencies of those libraries?
Introducing: npmnut - a simple "protocol" and cli-tool to advertise donation addresses and send donations to package developers!
The CLI tool parses your npm modules and looks for "npmnut" keys in their package.json files. These are supposed to be nprofiles of the developers. It then mints some Nuts from a preferred mint and sends them via DM to the developers of the package. Because sending tokens is quite lean, this works for direct dependencies and transitive dependencies and is quite fast.
I got inspired to build this by nostr:npub1ye5ptcxfyyxl5vjvdjar2ua3f0hynkjzpx552mu5snj3qmx5pzjscpknpr! I hacked this together over the last few hours, so there is still a lot of work to be done. I'll publish the code in a repo later today.
Cool. Also have a look at https://pkgzap.albylabs.com/ for some inspiration.
nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm this is the second or third time I've gotten this email - what's the deal here?
I thought the whole reason why I'm paying a monthly fee for the Cloud service is so I don't have to constantly manage this stuff

No, you don't need to constantly unlock your Hub or keep it open. That's the benefit of the Alby Cloud service.
In this specific case we sent an email to inform about a necessary update on Monday. After an update and a restart the Hub needs to be unlocked. The update was done on Wednesday. That's why you received this email.
Going forward we try to keep required updates to a minimum so that you can decide when to update and unlock the Hub.
Have you tried different routing fee amounts?
In case you don't mind sharing the recipient via DM (moritz@getalby.com) I could reach out and check their Alby Hub "node health".
Do you mean fees to receive payments? What is very high?
