Not at all on the same page.

有趣的. You know things I do not.

很快改变. ?

Look into DD-WRT, OpenWRT, and Tomato as the open source implementations that can be run on a variety of hardware. There are also hardware projects that are open source as well.

As to security, it depends how you define it, I guess. Routers are incredibly giant attack surfaces.

Curious what you guys think… Since it’s genesis #Bitcoin has existed under the shadow of anti-crypto government policies, shaping adoption and perception. With the shifts in U.S. leadership and/or regulatory clarity, how do you see this evolving? Could clearer rules boost Bitcoin ETFs and institutional adoption? Will exchanges manipulate the market further with liquidations, or will the “wild west” of shitcoins face a crackdown, consolidating focus on Bitcoin? Could we even see Bitcoin integrated into an international reserve?

The “game” feels like it’s changing. Bitcoin has moved from sketchy platforms like Mt. Gox to mainstream accessibility via Cash App and Strike, with players like MicroStrategy and BlackRock leading institutional adoption. Yet, as nation-states and corporations increasingly eye Bitcoin, could geopolitical tensions or CBDCs make it a key player in the global financial chessboard? What role might it play as fiat currencies face mounting pressure from inflation and government overreach?

On the flip side, are we overlooking risks? Could clearer regulations create new avenues for market manipulation, tracking, or even seizure? What about Bitcoin’s energy debate….will ESG narratives drive resistance, or will renewable mining change the story? And as institutional adoption grows, what’s the play for a euphoria-driven bull market where retail gets rekt chasing leveraged gains or pump-and-dumps?

Is Bitcoin evolving into an institutional asset, as well as a counter to fiat collapse, or something we haven’t even imagined yet? What are the blind spots no one’s talking about, and how do we prepare for this next wave outside of the BAU maximalist regurgitation aka not your keys not your coins etc? Curious to hear your takes. 👀

Many very good questions in this. And I've wondered a lot of the same things. I've been in Bitcoin for quite some time now. And I've seen it evolve, I've seen the narratives change.

An interestingly we're all coming around to something Hal Finney said a long long time ago. About the way we would transact with it.

The way "banks" with a SMALL b would change and help us transact.

And yet the money printers (Banks with a big b). see the writing on the wall. And they are not going out with a whimper.

I'm not sure I ever really believed we would get here.

Yet here we are.

It's always been hard for me to say no.

I am a people pleaser.

Sad.

Potentially scarier honestly..

🤣😬🐴♀️

Not knowing it's a lie. But not knowing what the truth is entirely either. My dying mother... Exactly 1 year ago.

I agree Trump is most certainly not a "bitcoinner" as we would define it.

But he can be pro us dollar and pro Bitcoin at the same time.

It's a little black and white to say because he still wants to protect the us federal reserve (meh) that he "doesn't care about Bitcoin" and won't also make possibly significant Bitcoin moves.

But we shall see.

Feel free to steal this meme lords. ;)

At some point all your shit just fades away.

What a euphemism. Some of it does fade. But most of it rots... dies... Falls back into the dirt.

You built a house? It will be bulldozed and replaced.

Your children? They will die. And some may even curse you on their deathbed.

Any earthly treasures you have laid up will rot. Will be replaced. And forgotten.

Like private keys. Lost. Forgotten. If not by you then by someone else.

What exactly are you living for?

Not a rhetorical question. And not for you really, but maybe it will mean something to you, so I post it.

What exactly am I living for?

Why yes... Yes it is.

I just spent $14 on a 12 pack of... Oh it's hard to say it... Gulp. Busch NA at WALMART by God.

The reality is they know they can take advantage of us because of where we are.

Congrats on your sobriety.

Standing by.

So... I got into Bitcoin in 2011. And yeah... I did not get enough sats early on... we all know that one. :) But I have been around to witness every bull market. And in each one, PARTICULARLY the big moves, I have watched a sliver of the prior generations of Bitcoinners do the same thing.

They get preachy.

They start talking more about what is WRONG with Bitcoin. And start criticizing others for being in it for the gAInZ. You are not cypherpunk enough. You are not in it for the right reasons. You are using it the wrong way, or for the wrong things. Or... -gasp- you are the wrong person/entity to be holding it. "A BANK is buying bitcoin?!?!?! Well in my day we said... "

Yeah... we know what you said. And it probably sounded good at the time.

But when you make a permissionless asset. An asset that does not need the consent of ANYONE to trade in. That means that even the people you do not like can and SHOULD be able to use it...

But *ahem* this is another rant. Sorry.

Maybe suddenly you become friendly about (certain) altcoins. Or maybe you still claim to be a maximalist but are now "concerned" about scaling. Ossification. Covenants by God!

Whatever.

And I do not say this to downplay the legitimacy of things like improvements to the protocol (careful!). Or the legitimate concern that big manipulative players could accumulate and then attack (breathe... and think about this one) Bitcoin to destroy it. They certainly may try.

But it's too late. All they can do is slow it down.

In which case, you may be OK with "NGU" again. Sometime after NGD at least ;) .

And I am not even saying it will again. I am sort of scared as well as excited that it might not... at least not the 85% sort of drops we saw in the past. But still... it's easy to get snooty in bull markets.

Those new Bitcoinners... They do not understand. They have not even had to go through a bear!!!

Hopefully they will not have to! Though almost certainly they will.

A famous Bitcoinner ( @odell ) said "Be humble" and then something else. Can't remember... already fucked that other part up, honestly.

Humility includes warmly welcoming the new Bitcoinners (who are still early AF) even if they do not completely understand yet. Did you? DO you?

Humility accepts that evil people, organizations, and even governments (omg) will adopt it, and NOTHING can/will/should stop them.

Humility means accepting that as we broaden acceptance of the protocol we will INEVITABLY run into people we REALLY REALLY disagree with. The echo chamber might be fun (honestly I am bored of it... but maybe this is why I am writing this to MYSELF)... But the next generation of Bitcoinners is showing up. Right now.

And if you decide that you do not want these people peeing in your pool now that you have achieved an amount of value where you feel "safe"... you are losing the narrative.

Humility is a deep deep thing.

Be humble. And I hope you are better at it than me. ;)

This is a fantastic conversation. And I do not want to be a dick... but it's a little over the head of at least 90% of the people.

AND THEN IT CRASHED.
