Weird, I always browse relays and never seen that issue. Is that on desktop or on a phone?

If it's on a desktop please try https://jumble.social/ and see if the issue also appears there and let me know, please.

If it's on a phone then abandon the web and try the nostr:npub1yzvxlwp7wawed5vgefwfmugvumtp8c8t0etk3g8sky4n0ndvyxesnxrf8q native app (install from app stores) as it has a very nice relay browsing capabilities.

I'm trying on desktop, and jumble seems to be doing the same. Strangely enough, my own relay is definitely up and working, but nostr.watch also seems unable to reach it (along with every other relay on the list).

Wonder if there's some wider problem across nostr right now... hm.

I'll try again tomorrow!

I'm not sure what happened, but one of these clients I've been testing just deleted my entire Following list... fucking great. 😾

I really have to stop messing around with web clients and just settle on one. But there's so much choice, and a lot of them bug out after a while.

https://fevela.me/ now supports https://github.com/dtonon/fevela/pull/40, which is better than blurhash. https://evanw.github.io/thumbhash/

You can see it in action on nostr:npub1e49nhp86q24g66jp9wahzmerv79dum8y4dpv4dt0snvjwlkynf4qnzsm0m if your eyes are faster than your internet.

(Or throttle the connection speed in your browser devtools network panel, this was a good idea.)

Actually after browsing through a feed of blurhashes (on Jumble) and a feed of thumbhashes I've changed my mind, I think the difference is absurd and thumbhash is not only slightly better, it's astronomically better.

nostr:npub1syjmjy0dp62dhccq3g97fr87tngvpvzey08llyt6ul58m2zqpzps9wf6wl would you add it to Jumble? nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s please jump in the bandwagon too! nostr:npub1n0sturny6w9zn2wwexju3m6asu7zh7jnv2jt2kx6tlmfhs7thq0qnflahe? nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z? nostr:npub1cesrkrcuelkxyhvupzm48e8hwn4005w0ya5jyvf9kh75mfegqx0q4kt37c? nostr:npub1yzvxlwp7wawed5vgefwfmugvumtp8c8t0etk3g8sky4n0ndvyxesnxrf8q?

I hadn't heard of fevela before, just took a look, feels pretty nice! Love the slim UX.

I host a public relay so this is a nice way to monitor its notes.

It was working fine for a few minutes, but now I keep getting empty feeds (for all relays/anywhere it tries to load a feed) with this error whenever I try to reload feeds:

thank you! So all user follows = the follows of all the users I'm following? πŸ™

Hey frenpais! An update on my public #relay:

I've disabled the requirement to NIP-05 verify, so anyone can use it even without a NIP-05!

I've also coded a spam and abuse filter proxy that sits in front of #nostr relays, that will check for blacklisted pubkeys, IPs and blocked phrases. Any spammers will be denied access. I had to do this to ensure free and fair service to legitimate nostr users. If you abuse the relay you will be shitcanned! πŸ˜ΌπŸ’©

I think all of these are great points, you're right. Thinking more about the technicalities of getting setup... the varying clients mean FIP support is never consistent.

The relay choices are basically a guessing game for newcomers, who may not even understand what relays are doing.

DMs are still pretty hit-and-miss. It could be that the DM was sent fine, but the receiver hasn't got a DM relay properly configured.

Returning to #nostr after a while, I went digging into the usage stats. While it's hard to get definitive numbers, over the past 6 months there is a slow grind downward in active users. However it's still around 14K users DAU which is pretty decent.

I honestly feel like there's strill a stigma that nostr is something for BTC maxis only. It felt true when I first joined a few years ago (2023), and it still feels true today when I see/hear people commenting about nostr elsewhere, or look around the relay feeds.

It makes me wonder if wider adoption is held back by this idea, or whether it's just *too niche* a technology to expect normies to pick up and use.

It's not the same, but activitypub/fediverse (aka Mastodon) has faced similar challenges IMHO. The users are highly opinionated on certain topics, and I can't shake the feeling that their uptake is held back not by the tech but by the users' vocal opinion on various things (i.e., crypto is horrible, AI is terrible, certain political views chastised, etc..) You end up with a very similar crowd of shared opinion as a result, and others don't feel welcome and worse, are actively pushed out. Again, I'm not saying nostr is like this, but there's a similar challenge of adoption.

Thinking back to my own experience when starting to use nostr, it felt very easy to get signed up and start consuming/posting. There's good ecosystem choice in clients. The issues are things like NIP-05 verification or creating/linking up lightning wallets; it starts getting more complicated and it's not easy for the regular user to do.

I guess I'm left with the thought that adoption is a function of ease: both technical and behavioural. Is it easy to get setup? Is it easy to feel welcome no matter who I am?

Greetings frenpais! In the summer of 2023, I started hosting a public #nostr #relay.

Welp, it's been a while, and I'm just coming back to nostr after a long hiatus. But the relay is now updated and back online! It supports most NIPs and yesterday I've enabled support for NIP-42 for authenticated DMs.

spider mites. plant needs to be washed clean of those, and perhaps in a place more suitable (possibly more humidity).

Welp, looks like the Fed has decided to cut rates by 25bps...

the interface feels nice, they try to upsell their premium subscriptions. It's not too intrusive though and free seems fine if you already have a lightning wallet and NIP-05 verification.

have you tried the primal mobile app? wondering how they compare. I do like amethyst a lot, but have to admit I am just coming back to nostr after a few years hiatus.
