Biggest religion : “There is no more persistent and influential faith in the world today than the faith in government spending.”
Biggest Industry : “Printing money is the world’s biggest industry - if the product is measured in monetary terms.”
— Henry Hazlitt, Economics in One Lesson, 1946
I picked up this book over the weekend. It's a quick and easy to read kinda book, and very enlightening. Henry Hazlitt (1894-1993) was a socialist turned libertarian - who, with his high school education - went on to become one of the most influential writers and editors in major media outlets like The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and authored many books.
He was also a good friend of Ludwig von Mises and played a big role in introducing Misses and his ideas to the American public. He got Mises a teaching position in the US when he fled Europe during WW2.
Given Hazlitt’s libertarian thoughts, he was against war and gov’t spending. But as much as he embraced capitalism, he did not advocate for excessive, unbridled capitalism - and I think this nuance deserves deeper consideration in today’s world.
I like the idea of experimenting with agentic AI on an open network. You do drop thoughts ahead of time and trigger all kinds of reaction which is what we need as a society (re protocol a few yrs back).
With agentic AI, it seems like we can gauge the temperature of uncensored, unmonitored conversations and compare to an algo-ridden world. We become the placebo.
Enabling agency for people to explore their social horizon would also be another interesting opportunity.
On privacy, it is needed for censorship resistant to be optimised, so that users don’t self censor out of fear or we create breeding ground for gov’ts IP geolocation tracking to capture dissent. We don't have any privacy now. Yes gov't cannot block you here but they can capture you and put you in prison and that sucks even more. The privacy options we have here are not much diff from existing centralised system out there right now, except for that one extra step of single point of failure.
If we want to make privacy work and normalise it, I don't think it can be the same thing wrapped in a diff outfit. It has to be diff and simple to encourage adoption. You are right, debates between free speech vs fake speech is a distraction while free will and free thoughts are in jeopardy

and Derek, looks like you can create Tinder out of Nostr Nests =)
Romance :
Petrichor - the fresh, earthy smell after it rains
Spoiler :
The smell is a combination of geosmin, produced by bacteria that is used to decompose in the soil (actinobacteria), and ground-level ozone layer which is harmful to the respiratory system, and plant oil released to the soil
If you‘ve tried to fix your laser printers, you would have spotted several parts like rollers, brushes and a tiny mirror when you open it.
Static electricity might seem to have limited use-cases, but laser printers make the most out of it.
When you send a doc to print, your pc sends a signal to the printer. A laser beam is directed to a mirror and will trace out the words you typed. This mirror is reflected to a cylindrical drum which is coated with light-sensitive material (like selenium). The areas where the laser hits the drum become negatively charged.
Next to the drum is the toner filled with powder. It has a brush and when it rolls on it, it becomes positively charged, and is attracted to the negatively traced out words on the drum.
The paper then passes through, where the toner powdered words are transferred to it and finally will be heated up to melt the toner and bond to the paper - before it comes out of the printer.
Man so many things going in there - I have never been able to do a major fix for a printer - this has become a painful use and throw situation.
Was looking at the test again - the material is conductive, not energy producing - which makes perfect sense. Typically when resistance is measured, you don’t connect it to any power source because the multimeter will apply a small voltage to the resistor and measure the current flowing through it to calculate resistance (V=IR). The metal composition can cover up to 12GHz which is pretty decent. Higher signal will have lower power and requires amplifiers and mixers - hence if the concern is bodily protections then its perfect because it will bounce off.
Head to Nostr Band (https://nostr.band/) - type in any topic of your interest. You will find a bunch of people that talk about it. Follow them - and keep doing this - until you have a circle that you are comfortable with.
Nostriga was fabulous. I love following all of Nostr conference from a distance but this time around the depth of tech sharing was at a diff league. Amazing job everybody ❤️

When it comes to quantum mechanics, Heisenberg reminds you why uncertainty is inevitable, Schrödinger teaches you that change is constant and in all things, there is hope on reaching potentials when reality is built on probabilities rather than certainties. Every action or decision opens up a range of possibilities rather than being stuck with the fear of the unknown
There's something powerful in sticking together and pushing for change : 'The Baltic Way' was a human chain of 2 million people holding hands across Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia stretching over 600km as a peaceful protest in demanding for independence from the Soviets in August 1989. In March 1990, Lithuania and Estonia gained independence, and in May 1990, Latvia was free.
A big shoutout to all at Nostriga Day 2 ❤️

I’m intl a lot and Starbucks is usually the easiest way to guarantee finding cold brew (most non-US countries super far behind here). Almost every country has at least one unless sanctioned, super small or super undeveloped.
In Riga I remembered this place from last year though with excellent cold brew https://maps.app.goo.gl/dMzZLxkL7GLYiHaP6?g_st=ic
oh nice, the places closes early huh ? There seem to be several cold brew when searched for it at riga. Rocket Bean Roastery has one of the highest positive review. Maybe cold brew cafe exploration can be part of the list this time around too =)

ain't that the truth.
That is an interesting observation. How's the local coffee though ?
I don't know what lies ahead but Vitor is very innovative, and his ideas triggers thoughts, debates and creations. If you want to breakaway from norm, you can't be normal =)
i guess the hard part (and the fun part) would be figuring out how to flip the chart
I like Jack Kruse's take on EMF and grounding (it was longer on another talk on primal health). I would love to have a Geiger counter and trace everything at home. I like that he takes magnetic field strength (tesla) into consideration (the word tesla represents magnetic flux density, the inventor Nikola Tesla who discovered it, and the modern day EV cars). I also like the fact that he emphasises on grounding. Each home/building typically comes with an 8ft copper rod driven to ground - so if you were to touch a big electrical appliance or any grounded metal, that might be one way to discharge. In another talk, I like that as a doctor, he zooms out and sees the big picture, and narrows back in - the inability to do this is an opportunity loss for all specialization in general.
there's habla and yakkihonne. I've not tried the latter. The only prob with long form I face is that it auto publishes on some client and does not on others. So if I were post the link on a note, it would be repetitive on some. Seemed easier to use normal notes. But a lot of potentials for long forms esp countries that tracks people 24/7 and just general writings
