People plan on disintermediating financial transactions to cut out payment processors; they plan on taking custody of their money to cut out banks; and finally they plan on using Self-Sovereign Identity to cut out government from surveiling them and controlling them.

As I listen to @ThomasEWoods and @saifedean talk about Saif's new treatise on economics, without having read his book yet, I have some thoughts on the general tone and framing of economics in all schools. The focus is on human action based on the scarcity of resources and marginal value. I feel like there is opportunity to expand economic thought by recognizing value is based on value systems rooted in human life. This view of value helps reframe economics from bean counting (i.e., metrics based on money) to standards of living (quality of life). This unifies material value (priced in money) with spiritual, fulfillment, aesthetic, and all other forms of value. This obviates the need to treat externalities exceptionally. This framing puts human purposes and outcomes (goals and achievements), and thus value-systems that model human purposes, at the heart of economics. Incidentally, it also brings ethics into the economic realm. As it should, because ethics is fundamental to human action. I feel that this unification would benefit economic theory.
So much prerequisite knowledge on each of these five technologies is needed to form an opinion, who can even give an informed response to this poll?
US Senators Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona and Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming have introduced Senate Bill 884, also known as the Improving Digital Identity Act of 2023
https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/senate-bill/884?s=1&r=11
If this bill passes both chambers and is signed into law, it will require all Americans to have a valid digital ID -- IF they want to connect to the internet, open and maintain a bank account, obtain a passport, and gain access to medical care.

Now I really have to write that guide about "How to ship yourself to El Salvador in a shipping container".
I tried to postpone it but now it became a real thing.
Stay tuned, soon will be published.
Here is a sneak peak:

I'm sure, each of us has upward of one hundred digital identities online already. So, no thanks. I'm good.
nostr:npub1h8nk2346qezka5cpm8jjh3yl5j88pf4ly2ptu7s6uu55wcfqy0wq36rpev sounds like you are describing Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI), where a person has self-custody of their own private key, and use their pubkey as universal identity everywhere on the net.
Idea: possible to develop a self-contained Nostr client and relay that combine both functions, so Nostr becomes a hybrid of relays and p2p?
When reading replies in Amethyst, I don't see any threading, so I can't figure out which reply is in response to another reply. What a mess. It is unreadable.
These are much more wearable.
Nostr may still be vulnerable to governments such as EU enforcing DSA.
Nostr may still be somewhat vulnerable to DSA censorship enforcement. Relays are few. They are identifiable and can be doxxed to ownership, which can be targeted by law. They rely on public DNS, domain registrars, and CAs for TLS certificates. These can be attacked by law enforcement. Not nearly unstoppable and ungovernable enough to survive.
August 25, 2023: the EU DSA begins enforcement on 19 Big Tech platforms. I anticipate a rapid ramp-up in censorship and a loss of speech freedom. We should plan for contingencies, such as migrating to decentralized platforms (Nostr) that are ungovernable.
Very Large Online Platforms and VLO Search Engines are being targeted for enforcement by the DSA. If allowed to stand, we should consider these to be dead platforms.
To whoever sent me 100 sats, not tied to a note, thank you. What's weird is aside from an LN invoice id, there is no hint to identify who sent it or what it is for. Is this money flow etiquette (anonymous transfers showing up in the wallet for not reason) something we should expect to be normal moving forward?
Abandoning Twitter altogether, or still using it from a browser?
I'm not really understanding Wallet of Satoshi. You can't back up your keys with a seed phrase? I guess, if you uninstall the app or lose your device, you lose your keys and says with them?
Awkward about zap: from Amethyst (Android) it goes to Wallet of Satoshi to send the sats, but then there is no natural return to where you were reading. This needs to be smoother.
Beats me what is happening under the hood. I just installed Wallet of Satoshi and hit its Buy Bitcoin function which took me to Moonpay. Just getting started with doing zap through LN, so I'm just learning.
Bought $50 of sats using Moonpay, and they are delivering me $42 worth to my wallet. 16% is quite a fee.
Installed Wallet of Satoshi. It assigned me a LN Address with a very female name. I can't see a way of changing it. This is not a happy situation.
Maybe he has encountered some kind of personal trauma that factors into this.
