So I spent some time last night comparing the HoloLens with the Apple Vision…
My assessment: exactly zero HoloLens will get sold after Apple Vision is available 😂

I didn’t watch the announcement yet; what’s the big standout difference to you off the bat? I’ve used Holo and thought it was pretty neat.
• Holo can't go full VR (a big con)
• Apple interface and likely the intuitiveness of its use will be superior. Its one of the things that Apple is actually really good at. Holo interface looks clunky. I like my Quest as well, but its a bit of a pain sometimes.
• Integration with all the Apple apps will be a big "I have a way to use this right now" element for first time buyers.
• Holo "avatars" kinda look sad in comparison
• Same price point
Granted I don't think Apple is going to sell many of the devices and it will underwhelm. VR/AR with a big heavy device is just a super hard thing to depend on. For multiple reasons it can't possibly replace the dominant uses of a desktop or smartphone. It will supplement for people who need something specific or want to have a big screen and versatility in screens and workspaces.
All of that said, I think the Apple vision will steal a lot of the market from the high end competitors and be probably a dominant device... but I really suspect it doesn't do much to meaningfully expand the market. It will probably have a short term bump that looks good, but it won't have staying power. VR is just really difficult.
That’s what I want to hear!
I thought Microsoft scrapped that project earlier this year?
Oh ow, I hadn't seen this. I'm not surprised though.
These are much more wearable.
How much iGoggles do you see moving at $3499?
Eh. It may make a bigger difference when the device is made smaller and lighter, but I don’t see the VR/AR market changing significantly because of this product. They may become a dominant product *within* the current market and will likely grow it some, but I don’t think this is “VR’s moment” or anything.
Unless they get Business adoption this is likely going to fail as a product.
It’s too expensive to make and iterate on and way too expensive for broad consumer adoption. Apple need some graphic design or creator use case where companies will throw money at it to fund the R&D or it’s DOA.
I disagree, just for sitting on your ass (no mobility) this product has the potential to eat big screen's lunch. No more tv, multiple monitors etc... in a home. That alone may justify a big price tag.
if portable, then it becomes an ad platform in the wild ( say when shopping). Ad rev may subsidize it and lower the price even more.
Finally, there's an iris scanner. Govt LOVE that. Another way for it to be subsidized.
This pricing seems absurd to me. At 1/3 of the current price it could have really kickstarted the vr market (provided that it works as advertized). The "killer app" would soon follow.
the iPhone to the PalmPilot probably
