This is why there will never be a reckoning for the covid era - most people will never be unable to face up to what they became during that time. As you say, the cost of self-awareness would be simply too high.
Was just reading a bit about my grandfather's unit in WWII. He was in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and was captured at the Fall of Singapore in 1942. He was imprisoned in Changi, used as slave labour on the Burma railway for a couple of years and then transported to Japan on one of their "hellships" which were routinely torpedoed by the Allies. It's extremely sobering to think your existence depends on one diminutive Scotsman surviving such an ordeal.
I need to go away for a bit and process this before I come back and watch it again. I can't believe it exists.
No, he's very much alive as far as I know. He moved to Australia in the mid 90s and lives in the hills just outside of Adelaide. I was in the DI6 yahoo group for many years so I've heard him sound off on many issues and while he's certainly on the right wing of the political spectrum, his opinions on things are pretty normal and would likely be considered "cucked" by a lot of the online right these days. He just has a fetish for nazi aesthetics, like a lot of gay men of his generation.
I love me some DI6. I live in the same town as Douglas and have had a couple of minor dealings with him. He seems like a nice man.
Just be thankful that this accursed protocol is decentralized.
Yeah, they're not easy by any stretch of the imagination. I love Van Der Graff but can only take so much of Pete Hamilton's voice. Magma are just flat-out weird and I was a bit indifferent toward them until I saw them live - I've never seen such talent out in service of such insanity.
I just asked the eldest if he knew what "bussin" means. He said no but now I'm worried he's going to go look it up.
Great, now my 2 year-old says "yeet." I knew the internet was a mistake.
And they even look like they were kicked out of the Process Church of Final Judgement for being too damn weird.

Magma are about as deep as prog gets and drummer/leader Christian Vander's bizarre sci fi cantata, equal parts Carl Orff and John Coltrane, sung in the entirely made-up language of Kobaian and spread across 12 albums (so far) must rank as one of the strangest works of art of the last 500 years.

Here's an absolutely mental avant-funk track by Jannick Top, legendary bass player for Magma (and later producer for Celine Dion!).

Lol
Same. I'd been using that feature against spammers but hate to see it being abused.
