Free Ross is yet

(... To come)

I do wonder, however, how it will be perceived when more high quality relays become paid for. Will people be rational enough to figure out their options, or will they jump onto the next centralised platform that is making big promises?

The benefit to primals solution if you can get it working is that you can buy more credits (bitcoin) via the app directly from your bank account.

Sorry, I'm one of those technical ones, so I might be giving TMI. With more people joining I will learn how best to greet people and we in general will get better at explaining this stuff to each other.

What nostr website? Was it https://nostr.com/ ?

Trumps hands are much smaller in real life. We all know it.

Nice. You got a lightning address set up.

I also recommend that you get yourself a "nostr address". Think of it as a unique username. Anyone can create an account and use the same name as you, but nostr address is unique.

I got mine from nostr-check.com

Brand new nostr:npub1xr7t5h0l25ej73pm04zgz9afeexyzsjx67s5v0xxf2sshjn4sx6sep2gqh TikTok refugee here, and I'm ridiculously lost right now! πŸ˜… Any direction to a good source for orientation would be appreciated.

What client are you using?

1. You have a name, but you haven't got a "nostr address" yet.

An address is a verifiable identity. For example, it could be "elon@tesla.com". Nostr clients will go to tesla.com and search for a proof that "Elon" is registered on it and compare the npub against yours. If that passes, we can be pretty damn sure that someone who has access to tesla.com attests that your account is the real "Elon".

If your address was "craig@nostr-check.com", well nostr-check.com is one of many nostr identity sites, so it is a first come first serve type deal, like usernames on any other platform.

You can then say "hey, I am craig777@nostr-check.com on nostr" and people can find you by that.

Disclaimer: Since you don't own nostr-check.com, the owner of the domain could remove you, like how Elon took the @music username from someone on X when he took it over. If you have a website, I can help you register your own name on your own website. Then you don't have this risk.

2. You don't have a lightning address set up. This is how people can tip you bitcoin for your posts. I recommend using the minibits wallet. You can get a lightning address from there, it is quick to setup and you can start collecting internet points and even zap others back.

Use your client, edit your profile and set up those two things.

First thing first, don't rush into anything. Nothing good comes of doing things in a rush.

Not sure what country you're from, but all trades from any crypto to another is considered a taxable event in most countries. That means in the government's eyes, you sold your old crypto for cash and then bought the new crypto with that cash.

This shouldn't stop you from doing the trade, but you should keep records of your actions and research into the tax implications to be safe.

Bitcoin is the innovation. The media, the banks, and other bitcoin deniers think that "blockchain" is the innovation but as a technical person myself, I'll tell you that isn't true.

Oh and Coinbase has a shitcoin called sats because why the f not. Don't get confused and end up buying that.

Be safe, sticking to bitcoin will keep you far from so many scams and grifts.

Welcome.

Technically Bisq is a DAO but they created their own coin for it. It's the only "DAO" I've used but I don't know how it works.

Good thing is you don't need to buy the coin to use their services but I did buy some when I learned that it funded development and it gives me discounted fees as a bonus.
