Happy Friday newbs
I appreciate that eliza! Itās just some public domain art I found online.

Got it. Itās like a set of tools for mods. Good stuff
Iāve been thinking deeply about content moderation on Nostr.
Iām very pro-freedom-tech but there are problems we will need to solve to scale and be acceptable to a wider audience of user.
To help get the ball rolling on improving Nostrās ability to keep bad actors from poisoning the well hereās a proposal for a freedom maximising strategy for dealing with illegal or just insanity content (as determined by Nostr users)
I know thisāll be controversial so Iām looking for feedback and refinements before trying to build something to get this ball rolling.

IMO all the moderation problems stem from the fact that a ātwitter-likeā application has been the focus. We should give up on the idea of a global nostr social media network, and instead focus on small internet communities that form various hubs.
One relay (and maybe some back ups) one community. Let the community police things
I find that most important thing is establishing that you (the ābitcoin teacherā) donāt care if they ever buy bitcoin. Rather, youāre just trying to explain why Bitcoin is important socio-politically.
Most people only ever hear about Bitcoin because of its āpriceā. The scammy nature of ācryptoā broadly, and the volatility of Bitcoin make people wary, and rightly so.
But if you can get them to see that itās a force for good, youāve planted the seed
I donāt think the essential point has anything to do with backdoors. Itās actually much worse than that.
Theyāre arguing that since the devs 1) made the software and 2) knew it would be used for āillegalā things, and yet 3) did nothing to stop this, that they are complicit.
What kinds of things could they have done to stop things? Not made the software in the first place. Attempted to take the software down after the fact. Or blocked certain inputs as Wasabi does.
Scary precedent
Few things more satisfying than communicating with another person in a broken version of a language neither of you speak

Does your new course cover implementing a ālogin with nostrā button that interacts with a browser extension?
Corruptissima Re Publica, Plurimae Leges
- Tacitus, in āAnnalesā
The human understanding when it has once adopted an opinion (either as being the received opinion or as being agreeable to itself) draws all things else to support and agree with it. And though there be a greater number and weight of instances to be found on the other side, yet these it either neglects and despises, or else by some distinction sets aside and rejects, in order that by this great and pernicious predetermination the authority of its former conclusions may remain inviolate.

Had no idea this was a thing!
I miss zapping on mobile.
Do we have any avenues for convincing apple to permit this in the app store?
Can we flood one of their inboxes with explanations as to how Damus (or any app) does not handle any transactions, but rather just displays the results of transactions?
