I’ve been thinking deeply about content moderation on Nostr.

I’m very pro-freedom-tech but there are problems we will need to solve to scale and be acceptable to a wider audience of user.

To help get the ball rolling on improving Nostr’s ability to keep bad actors from poisoning the well here’s a proposal for a freedom maximising strategy for dealing with illegal or just insanity content (as determined by Nostr users)

I know this’ll be controversial so I’m looking for feedback and refinements before trying to build something to get this ball rolling.

IMO all the moderation problems stem from the fact that a “twitter-like” application has been the focus. We should give up on the idea of a global nostr social media network, and instead focus on small internet communities that form various hubs.

Hey Bitcoin Rocks,

I went to a local Gun/Ammo Store in my area

Had a great conversation with Matt

He's a really nice guy,

We talked 2A, The Constitution, Corporate/Gov collusion, The Federal Reserve and inflation. Once we established some common ground, I started to talk about bitcoin, He knew about bitcoin, but he instantly replied with the standard no coiner response.

He was open minded thou, and he let me keep talking. We opened the brochure and I walked him thru some of the key aspects of the bitcoin network

He said, He would look thru the Brochure later tonight and visit the website

we 🤝 and I was able to leave the store with no extra holes 🤣😂

Was my delivery perfect? A. NO not at all

Do regret not saying something i should have? A. YES. Once I left the store, I immediately thought of several things I should of said.

I just need more real world practice

I was thinking, it would be nice, if there was an educational brochure crafted for the individual. I was talking to Matt in his business, but i was talking to Matt as an Individual

I find that most important thing is establishing that you (the “bitcoin teacher”) don’t care if they ever buy bitcoin. Rather, you’re just trying to explain why Bitcoin is important socio-politically.

Most people only ever hear about Bitcoin because of its “price”. The scammy nature of “crypto” broadly, and the volatility of Bitcoin make people wary, and rightly so.

But if you can get them to see that it’s a force for good, you’ve planted the seed

This is really big, and really bad news.

The essential point seems to be that there is an argument that they *could* have exerted control. Did they actually have backdoor keys into the smart contract after they wrote and deployed it? I can't remember a clarification on that crucial point.

If they didn't, then this is even worse, because it means US LE are prepared to make *really* tortuous arguments to go after privacy software developers.

I don’t think the essential point has anything to do with backdoors. It’s actually much worse than that.

They’re arguing that since the devs 1) made the software and 2) knew it would be used for “illegal” things, and yet 3) did nothing to stop this, that they are complicit.

What kinds of things could they have done to stop things? Not made the software in the first place. Attempted to take the software down after the fact. Or blocked certain inputs as Wasabi does.

Gm y'all!

I'm somewhat sleepy. More importantly, I need to stop doing late nights.

Back to drawing up a daily schedule and do my best following it.

I feel my year and 3 months healing journey has officially reached the conclusion of its first phase. Now the triggers are within a different frame and I don't quite know how to deal with them.

I think praying for God's help, communicating about them and more reading on the thinking patterns probably would help fix these PTSD symptoms. These are what I'll try.

I noticed there's probably some self-sabotage going on as well. I need to take some time journaling, pondering and figuring it all out.

But I'll still say this: it's not gonna be an easy journey but I'm hopeful for the ultimate outcome to be a healed me.

Do we have any avenues for convincing apple to permit this in the app store?

Can we flood one of their inboxes with explanations as to how Damus (or any app) does not handle any transactions, but rather just displays the results of transactions?
