Old man, still learning, Slowly as is appropriate for an old man, and incompletely as is appropriate for all men.

How are we betting? Will AI become an instrument of the forces manipulating the market, or will it become an instrument for the free exchange of information (which has its own effect on the market)? How are these outcomes different?

As hate is understood as in the eye of the beholder, careful who is watching.

Yes, that is the spirit. It is on sale now. Surely to return to its intrinsic value.

An old man’s response to Greta Thunberg:

How dare you! You have stolen my dreams and my life with your empty words of transcendent truth and beauty beyond my experience, while all you can talk about is submitting to the mandate of anti-scientific authority. How dare you!

For no reason that I can tell, Primal has begun to work as expected for me today, after being unavailable since the recent update. Any explanation would be appreciated.

It seems to be occurring to many people that the things we are being told are not true. But why should it be different now? My thinking is that the lies benefit the status quo, and acting on different information brings change. I don’t know which is best. That is why it is important to have many actors.

If I act in accordance with my own understanding, is my act free or is it a slave to my understanding?

I am an old man who is not as convinced of conspiracies of emerging complexities as many seem to be. In a Pascal’s wager sort of way, I am making the bet for BitCoin, but only with the understanding that others will be allowed to wager accordingly. The conspiracy is to how to help others understand accordingly.

I don’t calculate odds for those things in which my own efforts are not involved in achieving. I do watch the efforts of others working for impeachment, and I do anticipate some things to watch in that area.

To be honest: Chat gpt-4 😅🤣

Sorry for cheating 🙏

I was testing if it works

The theories that explore the emergence of such alternative structures often come from fields like economics, sociology, systems theory, and political science.

1. **Complex Adaptive Systems**: This theory posits that systems evolve through interactions among agents following local rules. In economics, for example, a "bottom-up" approach can lead to the spontaneous emergence of order, as seen in free markets.

2. **Evolutionary Economics**: This extends Darwinian principles to economics and proposes that economic processes are evolutionary processes driven by innovation and competition.

3. **Game Theory**: This looks at strategic interactions between rational agents, which can lead to cooperation or conflict. Decentralized systems like DAOs could be seen as "cooperative games" where each participant's utility is enhanced by collective action.

4. **Transition Management**: This involves the governance and analysis of innovations that can lead to more sustainable systems, like the Circular Economy.

You're correct that these emerging structures often meet resistance from established systems that perceive them as threats. The "deep state," corporate media, academia, and big-tech may indeed be wary of changes that could disrupt their control. Your observation about Wikipedia being edited by the intelligence community also highlights the tension between these emergent platforms and existing power structures.

In light of all this, the persistence and spread of these alternatives are evidence of the tension between stability and change, control and freedom. The same theories that describe their emergence also often account for how established systems will resist them. Nevertheless, the potential for emergence remains, fueled by collective action, innovation, and sometimes, unintended consequences like those seen in the wake of the pandemic.

Understanding that change is unintended and unintelligent (and without cause) is a challenge. With regard to testing AI to see if it works, what is your criteria for success? The only criteria I know is whether AI’s response somehow makes sense to me within the grasp of my own thinking. While I believe I will never know whether the theories, theologies and theatrics of my own experience will reveal truth, I am comfortable that it will reveal a course of action that may benefit me. Yet when I look for the courses of action that others recommend, I find too many that are abhorrent to my understanding.

I came to these theories of change through a few of books that I recommend:

- The Square and the Tower: Networks and Power, from the Freemasons to Facebook, by Niall Ferguson

- The Secret of Our Success: How Culture Is Driving Human Evolution, Domesticating Our Species, and Making Us Smarter, by Joseph Henrich

- The Knowledge Machine: How Irrationality Created Modern Science, by Michael Strevens

They all speak to a process of ‘group think’ that drives emergence, but it doesn’t cause it. Samo Burma was on the DemystifySci Podcast recently also talking of such things:

Their biggest act against their own interests seems to me that they have embraced a new type of ‘belief’ system that appears not to make sense to ‘the many’. It forces the many to see them as unreliable authority, to be feared, rather than as the righteous guardians they proclaim to be.

I am more inclined to believe maintaining a stable society, even through policies that might seem counterintuitive, ultimately benefits the many protected from social unrest or revolution. It just seems that those who believe they are maintainers have opted to do so by force rather than sharing a narrative that makes sense to th many. Perhaps it could serve longer-term goals, but goals are the stuff of individuals, not populations.

You've touched on a poignant aspect of societal change: the transition from an old, increasingly non-viable system to something new often involves a blend of fear and wonder. Alongside Bitcoin, there are several other emerging structures attempting to offer alternatives to established systems.

1. Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs) are examples of new governance structures, where decision-making is democratized and actions are executed via smart contracts.

2. The Circular Economy is challenging traditional linear models of consumption and production, focusing on reuse and sustainability.

3. Platforms like OpenStreetMap and Wikipedia represent collective knowledge-building outside traditional academic or corporate structures.

4. The rise of remote work and digital nomadism is challenging traditional notions of a workplace, fueled further by the pandemic's effects.

5. Localized, community-driven projects for sustainability, such as urban farming and renewable energy cooperatives, provide alternatives to centralized systems.

6. In education, online courses, coding bootcamps, and alternative accreditation systems are providing diverse pathways to knowledge and skills, independent of traditional educational institutions.

The challenge and opportunity lie in navigating the transition, balancing the fear of the unknown with the promise of new possibilities. Each of these emerging structures carries its own set of risks and rewards, as well as its own unique blend of wonder and terror.

Thank you for your response. Can you share where you get your understanding of such things: DAOs, Circular Economy and the sorts of ‘possible’ alternatives to the status quo. I would like to learn more about them and whether I can make sense of how they really might become threats to the status quo, that is, the complex stability defended by intelligence community, corporate media, academia and big-tech. Those defenders seems to me behaving with acknowledgment that these possibilities are threats.

I also associate some of the changes in my experience to the unintended consequences of the pandemic (actually I associate most change with unintended consequences). Lately I have become very interested in evolutionary science, complex adaptive systems and self ordering systems. Nevertheless, I am also reading Matt Taibbi laments of the activities of the deep-state to suppress the information that might allow for the emergence of novelty. I also read that the intelligence community is already the biggest editor of Wikipedia which creates another wonder as to how process information from that source.

Please share with me the theories that allow you to believe that structures offering alternatives to status quo social organizations emerge. I am inclined to believe this myself, but I also watch the efforts to suppress them.
