One concept that I’ve never explicitly heard in the Bitcoin realm, but I see evidence of all over the place is: self-differentiation. Though it has a lot of overlap with self-sovereignty it hits on some important differences.

Self-differentiation is basically being able to develop a clear sense of one's own identity, thoughts and emotions in distinction from others. Individuals who are self-differentiated are able to maintain their autonomy while remaining emotionally connected to others, particularly within close relationships. I learned about this concept well before Bitcoin was on my radar in the context of navigating relationships in church (which I was completely foreign to) and trying to figure out how I think for myself while still staying connected to others, especially those who saw the world much different than me.

Self-sovereignty is a beautiful concept too, but I tend to think of it as having more to do with property, survival, being able to do things for yourself, etc. All these are absolutely essential and great. However, I would argue that self-differentiation and the ability to critically think for yourself precedes the actions you take to become self-sovereign.

One of the coolest things about #nostr is that it feels like I’m able to see self-differentiation at the network level. So many people on here that seek deep connection, yet fiercely think for themselves and aren’t easily offended. And even when they are offended they believe that offensive speech should still rightly be protected!

Not reaching for re-posts, just have to genuinely shout out nostr:nprofile1qqsywt6ypu57lxtwj2scdwxnyrl3sry9typcstje65x7rw9a2e5nq8spz4mhxue69uhk2er9dchxummnw3ezumrpdejqzxrhwden5te0wfjkccte9eekummjwsh8xmmrd9skcg30nly and nostr:nprofile1qqsdv8emcke7k3qqaldwv956tstu40ejg663gdsaayuuujs6pknw7jspzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuurjd9kkzmpwdejhgtcpr9mhxue69uhhqun9d45h2mfwwpexjmtpdshxuet59ug0zf86 for putting me on to Nostr through the podcast they did last week. Embedding myself within this network has the potential to be life-changing for me and my family.

#sovereignty #differentiation

Yes to all of this 👏

Incoming for someone out there. Don’t trade quality for scalability, Bitcoiners will notice

Stop shilling my shit ! 🤣 Glad you like it and thank you 🙏.

@unconfiscatable - 2023 Conference #unconfiscatable

Thank you @ToneVays, Mel @girls_bitcoin and all the folks who contributed to provide such a great conference.  The work your team put into this conference deserves more attention so I'm sending a THANK YOU for making it a great experience.

On top of great panel discussions, fun poker tourney and carnivory dinner, here are a few key takeaways of my experience for those considering attending.

Super Grateful for @JimmySong taking the time to help me better understand the halving logic. Jimmy literally broke out his machine and walked through the code with me in validator.cpp

Saw a great demo of lightning used in different creative ways from D++ Thank you!

Thanks to Vanessa (nostr - @vrod) and Will (nostr / X - @jb55) taught me more about Damus and how developers can contribute. Very grateful for your time and seriously impressed to see what you've accomplished in such a short time.

@thoglund - Thanks for showcasing your hardware products.  Great inspiration for those who want to know what can be done.

Listening to @HodlTarantula speak on mining was incredibly valuable, even for those who aren't new to the BTC community.  I regret spending time playing fiat casino games instead of picking his brain on things that matter

@asanoha_gold and @ProofofInk - I have some of their work but learning the story and vision behind these two and their art was enlightening.  Quality over quantity 100%

Big wedding congrats to @BITVOLT7

So much else to say but shout out to these folks who I had the honor of spending quality time with:

@VivaBitcoin_, @nastyhodl, @ShellyLegit, @michelleweekley, @SovereignHODLr, @TheTophaLoaf, @schulzzy, @Meditation_Man, @surferjimw, @natbrunell, @nathanfast, @samcallah, @GaryLeland, @taodejing2, @BitcoinShooter, @OptimistFields, @BJdichter, @OliverStamato, @Joe_Saz, @TimechainCaL, @RoninMiner, @DRLittlejohn137, @smeet_bhatt
