Bookworm and lover of stories

Just wandered past this conversation and felt like I just stumbled into an episode of the Vicar of Dibley.

Keep up the good work chaps!

I loved The Four Agreements! πŸ’œ

The story at the end is just beautiful 😍

Still think back to that book regularly and try to say the agreements aloud at least one a month. It helps me to reset.

I’ve never read any Dale Carnegie. I keep forgetting to add him to my TBR list. Bookmarking now!

Thanks for the reminder 😊

Love the colours in this! And it’s another photo that looks like a painting or a painting that looks like a photo. Beautifully done. πŸ©·πŸ§‘πŸ’™

That looks yum!!!

Hardly saw any this year! SA banned them from public spaces/infrastructure last year, so i only saw an occasional one on someone’s private fence.

It was awesome!!! Good for the environment. Great for not being visually assaulted every day.

Now if we can only get them to ban Clive from texting…

I have 14 tab groups with 10-50 tabs in each πŸ‘€

They’re at least in neat categories πŸ˜‚πŸ™„

#bookstr review now that I've finished.

Excellent review of the history of democracies falling into dictatorships.

The good.

They used records from individuals who lived through the process in various countries throughout the 20th century. This made it more personal and about the individual actions involved than most material which focuses on the actions of the leaders and what they did. This makes it more useful for understanding how your individual actions can help prevent tyranny than a book about the leaders would be.

The bad.

The authors clearly dislike Trump and wrote the book about his first term. I agree but it still creates problems to be that blatant. First, I can't give the book to a Trump supporter to help them see why I oppose him, they'll get mad and never finish it. It is only useful for "preaching to the choir" so to speak. Second, it sticks the book in time. A more generic approach would have a more timeless book in my opinion. A great example of the second is how V For Vendetta the movie was focused on the US and English governments of that time and feels more dated than the book even though it was made much later.

I still like it even though it has those problems. Focusing on the individual actions gives a clear path for individuals. It often feels like individuals are powerless against the government. This shows how individuals can take useful action in their day to day lives to help turn the boat.

Bookmarking for later as that sounds like an interesting read. Thanks for posting πŸ’œ

Definitely! We’re different people when we reread it πŸ’œ

I met someone today that has never seen a Star Wars movie (old or new).

I was surprised and then mildly concerned that I am now, quite possibly, old!
