I understand that. Zaps could be implemented the same way anywhere. Damus isn’t special in that sense, Twitter could do the same. You only need to look at 90% of the the big influencers on Twitter who moved and promoted Nostr… they always say something like “it’s better there, and zaps are a motivation”. And those are just the influencers… most common folk come for the same reason, by

Nostr, and Damus especially, aren’t proof of work, they centralised in the same way shitcoins are.

Sure they’re more resistant to censorship than you average social media. But are they some bitcoin-esque decentralised? No. Therefore I don’t get why we worship this protocol so much. Sure I’m being pedantic, but people are acting like it’s going to save the world. Our standards are low it seems

I’m no Nostr developer, or Damus like developer on top of it, but I find it hard to believe you couldn’t censor what you liked in this app if you so had the will. I could be wrong of course… but, if you could, to me that’s a “decentralised” kind of decentralisation that a lot of altcoins boast about.

For example. I can’t figure out intuitively how to reply to you again after I’ve already replied.

I’ve clicked buttons but I can only figure how to reply to myself. I didn’t mean shitcoin as though it’s an alt to some bitcoin; to me nostr is a best try of something we haven’t figured out how to do well yet. To me it’s kind of like a shitcoin. Lots of bells and whistles but no substantial use. And it’s only realbitcoin in so far as the wallets you allow is to interact with have real Satoshis. But 99% of us use have custodians in those wallets

Would it be actual bitcoin if Twitter implemented lighting the same way? Nostr from what I understand is just relays, and some interaction with lightning has been built into it. I’m jaded by the fact that the bitcoin community has converted to nostr/damus from Twitter when Damus ISNT bitcoin. It’s just a harder to develop version of online communication aka social media.

Call me a hater, but I’m struggling to see the point of Nostr and Damus. To me, if feels like Bitcoiners have had the wool pulled over their eyes into supporting a shitcoin inception of social media that has basically wrapped bitcoin/Satoshis.

I invite anyone to enlighten me. It feels like lighting and bitcoin, what we truly care about, has been packaged in something novel but basically crap??

Can anyone honestly say the user experience here is better than Twitter?

Feels like a shit coin version of social media. Only, they’ve somehow integrated btc into the shitcoin. Most people probably wont even see my reply to myself. Something fundamental has been skipped and people are getting too excited. I truly feel if Musk introduced Lightning into Twitter this app would become irrelevant. And if he didn’t, this app would eventually become the what I rated us about the current Twitter.

I have to be honest… Zaps are incredible, but apart from that I’m struggling to see the point of producing a social app this way. Can someone explain the actual advantage of this besides first-mover advantage? To me, it’s less user friendly, can be censored just as easily because, ultimately, the devs have centralised control of the apps’ usage, and its seems more convoluted to develop/code on. Maybe I’m missing the point like I missed the point of bitcoin for a dozen years… I’d love to be enlightened. If someone provides a something that makes me think, I’ll zap.

I wish my superpower was to be able to give people my existential crises on a whim. It’s awful lonely.

Do you invest your money into anything?

Ye, I pretty much put my entire paycheque into bitcoin.

INTO BITCOIN?

They will gaze up and strain to find the blue dot in their skies. They will marvel at how vulnerable the repository of all our potential once was, how perilous our infancy, how humble our beginnings, how many rivers we had to cross before we found our way. - Carl Sagan, on humanity

And sometimes… we need to sleep

Say hi to a stranger. Comment something about them. They’ll feel happy. You will too. It’s what we’re meant to do as humans. When was the last time that you had an interaction that you felt worse about. SAY HI. WE’RE IN THIS SHIT TOGETHER

What if, Bitcoin isn’t the most important thing in the world.

If anyone is looking for movie suggestions, and likes Nicolas Cage (because you should)… The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Color out of Space, Willy’s Wonderland.

Watch them. You won’t regret it

What’s been the most impactful tragedy of your life? I had a dream that my mother died and I didn’t realise just how much I loved her. I dread the real day, especially because I haven’t learned my lesson
