the problem with not moving on from Goku is basically GT and Super, either he changes too much and people hate it or he doesn't change at all and get stale

i still think bringing Goku back as the lead during Buu was a mistake, shoulda stuck with Gohan and you'd have avoided this issue entirely

and hell, Super could have been about Goten and his adventures, going back to Dragon Ball style stories would work really great with him

he's just utterly flanderized the same way characters like Mickey Mouse are because Goku has stopped being a character but has become the icon of a franchise, he's a tool to make money and he has to fit within very narrow marketable parameters which might be one reason why this other thing with (another) adult-kid Goku is coming out

well later on it gets pretty by-the-numbers DBZ if that was more your thing. i enjoy the first season just because it was trying to harken back to the early days of Dragon Ball that was more about adventure and less about power level wanking.

i enjoy it more than Super overall because at least Goku has a personality in GT, you can actually see how he's grown since DBZ instead of him just being perpetually stuck as the same guy for his entire life. it's weird Vegeta showed more growth and character development than him.
