One of my biggest regrets is never having lived somewhere where I can learn to surf and kitesurf. It's crazy, considering that some of my friends have been prominent members of the windsurf community worldwide.
I get to wake surf occasionally, but I think surfing is the best sport on the planet. Whenever I have lived near water, I've spent a ton of time in it. The closest I've ever come to the freedom of surfing is riding powpow up at Whistler and Blackcomb and other spots in BC.
Now that I am in my mid 50's I think I may have missed my window. But it warms my heart to see others that are embracing the lifestyle, even if later into their lives. Even though I have never surfed, I know so many of the world's best breaks by name just by the volume of surfing I watch on video. I have always longed for the ocean.
At night this week, Centigrade and Fahrenheit will be the same temp. Itās hilarious seeing some of my Nostr contacts starting seeds for their gardens already and all of my beds are frozen stiff with 3ā of snow on top of them. I sometimes wonder wtf we are doing up here lol.
Itās funny heās so smart he will grab it off the back of the couch and build a nest with it. Or one of his brothers will cozy up.
Naw thatās just a dog bed. Door is always open and if we have to transport him for longer road trips it fits in the SUV.
We started this prepping journey about 5 years ago and kicked it into overdrive after seeing the effect that the Covaids plandemic had on local supply chains.
It really behooves everyone to strive to lay up enough food, water and ammo to make it through lean times. Sometimes it seems like a daunting task, which is why many never start.
We just started with the Rule of 3ās: trying to achieve 3 days of provisions, then 3 weeks, then 3 months. Then onward.
I think if we have a crisis that lasts longer than 3 months, the country is going to have bigger problems than just āhunkering downā will get us all through.
A good place to start is going through nostr:npub15879mltlln6k8jy32k6xvagmtqx3zhsndchcey8gjyectwldk88sq5kv0n ās extensive work on #thesurvivalpodcast . Itās been a great resource, even though I was fortunate enough to grow up on a farm and helping on hunts, and in gardens, kitchens and home meat processing projects since I was a kid. Plus #tsp is a great resource for getting hooked up with the tools and supplies youāll want to acquire over time to assist with your prepping projects.
Thatās great news. One step closer to an orange world š¤š½
Ok nostr:nprofile1qqsp2wk4p9awff35r50lmx2rltvjc059dx5vg0n9aq9jq8dg9rez9aspunjvm I did my quick research... Splicing is NOT available on LND nodes as of yet... Only with CLN and eclair. With this being the case and the majority of lightning nodes being LND for the individual user, I'm guessing Alby hub hadn't implemented it because it isn't available across the board.
Splicing is also relatively new and the bugs haven't been fully worked out yet. Are you running the hub yourself? If you're running it off of CLN or eclair you can use "ride the lightning" or the node directly to splice... But it won't be through the alby interface.
I bet you, if you give it a year or so it'll catch up.
Iām just using the hosted node service. Thanks for looking into this. I searched for an hour and couldnāt find a seamless way to transfer onchain funds from another location to my Alby hub spending balance.
It looks like all I can do is fund a new channel with onchain balance. The support page keeps just suggesting I have to use a swap service like Boltz or SimpleSwap
Smoked pickled eggs would be so great
Man I canāt wait to build a couple of these Johnson-Suās. It would be cool to make a box type one that has an openable front, so you could just flop the front down and pull the vent pipes out to shovel out the contents.
Yes good call on the shelling first. Iāll have to try that. Iāve tried this without shelling and the flavour is awesome but the shells were sometimes difficult to get off cleanly. The end product doesnāt look super appetizing but smoked eggs are awesome. Itād be cool to smoke shelled ones and use them in egg salad.
Does anyone know how to move on-chain balance funds in nostr:npub1getal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqr80nfm hub over into your spending balance? Iāve got a channel already, but the guides on the support page have one key video showing as āno longer availableā that I think has the answer. All I wanted to do was move some on chain corn from cold storage to my Alby Lightning wallet. I ended up having to send the on chain bitcoin on my hub to another wallet I have that can handle both on chain and Lightning, then send it via Lightning to my Alby wallet. It was a pain in the rear. Any advice would be appreciated. I canāt find anything in Albyās documentation. Thanks !
This weekendās turkey soup project is all frozen flat, halved, and vac sealed to protect against freezer burn. Itās nice knowing itās there in a pinch.

We usually pretty much just eat protein, so this is mostly just to have on hand for emergency provisions. But occasionally itās nice to mix it up, skip dinner prep and just thaw one of these out.
Hereās what ChatGPT has to say about running a node on MacOS
Yes, you can run a Bitcoin Core node on macOS, but not on iOS due to Appleās restrictions and iOSās sandboxing model.
Running a Bitcoin Core Node on macOS
Bitcoin Core provides official macOS binaries, making it relatively straightforward to set up a full node.
Steps to Install Bitcoin Core on macOS
1. Download Bitcoin Core:
⢠Visit the official Bitcoin Core website and download the macOS .dmg file.
2. Install Bitcoin Core:
⢠Open the .dmg file and drag Bitcoin Core into the Applications folder.
3. Run Bitcoin Core:
⢠Open Bitcoin Core from Applications.
⢠It will prompt you to choose a data directory (default: ~/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin).
⢠Ensure you have at least 500GB of free disk space if you want to run a full node.
4. Enable Full Node Settings (Optional but Recommended):
⢠If you want to contribute to network security and decentralization, enable full node mode.
⢠Modify the bitcoin.conf file (located in ~/Library/Application Support/Bitcoin/bitcoin.conf) with the following:
server=1
listen=1
maxconnections=50
⢠If you want to expose your node to the public, forward port 8333 on your router.
5. Verify Synchronization:
⢠The node will start downloading the entire Bitcoin blockchain.
⢠Use the command line to check status:
bitcoin-cli getblockchaininfo
⢠Expect the initial sync to take several hours or days, depending on your internet speed.
Why Canāt You Run a Bitcoin Core Node on iOS?
⢠App Store Restrictions: Apple does not allow background processes or apps that download large amounts of data continuously.
⢠Resource Limitations: iOS devices have limited storage and are not optimized for blockchain nodes.
⢠No Official iOS Support: Bitcoin Core is designed for Windows, macOS, and Linux but not for mobile operating systems.
Alternative for iOS:
If you want to interact with Bitcoin nodes on iOS:
⢠Use a lightweight wallet like BlueWallet or Muun that connects to remote nodes.
⢠Run your own Bitcoin Core node on a Mac, PC, or Raspberry Pi, and connect to it remotely via a mobile app like Zeus Wallet or Mempool.space.

This was pilot error on the part of the pilot flying the top aircraft, and the jumper that was designated as spotter for that loadās exit. There was no need for the two aircraft to be flying so closely for this formation load. And certainly not with one aircraft in the turbulent air above and rearward of the bottom aircraft. Once the upper aircraft entered the turbulent air in that position and at that proximity, you can see he totally lost lift.
Even during a relative work skydive, you have to make sure you never fly into the āvacuumā above another jumper or a formation of others that you are coasting in to join. The result is called a āfunnelā. Your descent rate suddenly increases and you will slam into whoever is beneath you.
We had this happen on an 8-way formation I was on, when the last diver to join (our buddy Seiji) accidentally got over top of the seven of us that were already linked up. He bombed right through the formation and blew it apart.
In addition to being dangerous, youāre never very popular back on the ground, when youāre responsible for blowing apart a formation and risking injuring everybody, when everyone has paid $25-30 for their slot on the aircraft. You usually end up buying a bunch of beer lol.
Iām so glad everyone including the two pilots survived this incident. I hope the drop zoneās business can remain open, having lost 2 aircraft. But someone is going to get their ass chewed.
I just feel like that ship has sailed now based on commitments Iāve made. But yes, I agree. It is slavery.
