Words for hire. Canadian, so… funny-ish? West Coast. Foodie. Oxford commas are a hill I’ll die on. Traveller. Anti-Nazi, pro-science. In 2015, I sold everything to travel the world for over 4 years. I stopped 3 months before the pandemic. 25 countries in the Before Times? Worth it. I share photography, tasty things, & cooking tips. I'm also political, left-leaning. Victoria, Canada. And I swear. A lot. #politics #yyj #travel #food #cooking #writing #writer #photography #canadian

Taking away from writers of films because others haven’t fought for what they deserve is silly.

Film is a $150 billion industry, if not more, and NONE of it exists without writers. Period.

Yes, the film writer compensation model is “outdated” for steaming.

That’s the whole fucking point of the strike, genius.

The CEOS of Netflix alone walked off with $100 million this year.

“Oh maybe writers should get better base pay and stop making residuals.”

Maybe CEOs should stop making bonuses.

MOVIES AND TV SHOWS DO NOT EXIST WITHOUT WRITERS. Writers invent the plots and stories. EVERYONE IN THE INDUSTRY DEPENDS ON WRITERS CREATING SHOWS.

I’m so tired of people making excuses.

nostr:npub1g3ssk5ujg2h4ygvvavd8km0reryphmwpjqyaq5umf9wteczpge6swwwtuk it’s good fun and she greatly enjoys the random stuff I feed her. Yay.

Fun experiment. Not quite what I envisioned in my head but we call it a “tasty fail.”

Parmesan & chicken broth or brodo with basil, green beans, and gnudi.

I made labneh last night. It’s sooooooooooooo hard.

Ready for this?

That’s it. You put yogurt in a strainer over a bowl, loosely cover with a plastic bag, and let it strain overnight.

The lower the fat percentage is, the more whey drains out. 10-11% fat yogurt is the best for labneh. #cooking #food

nostr:npub1ezl3n6eaezsf7c29epwvewqvwk5yhkehmamvk5cjf6ga5x9tsp6suv22vy yeah, I have seen the app, but I wouldn’t use it. It’s more for people who live by stores or have cars for getting to them. Nothing in my area uses it. But it’s a long overdue option.

nostr:npub1mvsewkyr66jqnychxn944f3xn0fqzece6f70rg8uaptusx8cmtsqqf35k5 yeah — not something better but my film job has more hours when I thought we’d be getting laid off with the strikes.

Panzanella or panmolle is a Tuscan and Umbrian chopped salad of soaked stale bread, onions and tomatoes that is popular in the summer. It often includes cucumbers, sometimes basil and is dressed with olive oil and vinegar. It is also popular in other parts of central Italy.

nostr:npub1x30k2xhq8djtlfd50dm3qlul2z57440zcpsntjsyud66hnumu2hstsupec that’s what this is, all of those things. I just lightly toasted the stale bread to get it really dried out.m first.

I have bread dough fermenting in the fridge right just now and panzanella was already on the list for using it up. So delicious. Great minds. ☺️

Nice sear on that chop, too!

nostr:npub1zakvc2lt3n0hxchfywutz5hc68vlzg7klweccmhfutry7ju4vzcsnfd6uu oh, nice. Yeah, I have oodles of bread in the freezer I need to use more of! :)

Supper. Panzanella with my herby pork chop and a nice bit of garlicky yogurt. #food #cooking

nostr:npub1vytnxfgrdxazzmtwx4hv9xvunk6zmcx8lsykarvgl6lmgsz98eks2amgjn CBC Gem has a show called High Arctic Haulers, which was really an eye-opener on life in the north.

nostr:npub16a3wq0x5ky070sp36ekmz3jwjqj7r2csgd0s97ym58tlvtfnshds6k9dah in 1994, I spent $3.69 for a single head of lettuce in Whitehorse when it was 67 cents in Vancouver. You know that every time you’re driving somewhere in the winter, if something happens, there may be no one for days. It’s a very different reality.

nostr:npub1vytnxfgrdxazzmtwx4hv9xvunk6zmcx8lsykarvgl6lmgsz98eks2amgjn It is also very expensive. Groceries, building materials, fuel, infrastructure for water, travel south, etc.

nostr:npub1vytnxfgrdxazzmtwx4hv9xvunk6zmcx8lsykarvgl6lmgsz98eks2amgjn Especially when businesses are now buying up homes as portfolio investments and renting out as airbnbs, depriving locals of affordable housing.

nostr:npub16a3wq0x5ky070sp36ekmz3jwjqj7r2csgd0s97ym58tlvtfnshds6k9dah yeah. Lotsa policies can help. Hopefully we get there.

Exactly. Ever lived in the Yukon or rural far north? I spent a year up there. Living remotely is hard, dangerous, & often requires MORE FOSSIL FUELS if living off the grid. It’s not a solution.

Urban land use can be smarter. Yeah. I’m a big fan of the “missing middle” plan HERE to allow single-lot zoning to be turned into small apartment buildings of up to 12 suites. That’s good.

But expanding population to new regions isn’t an answer.

nostr:npub1vytnxfgrdxazzmtwx4hv9xvunk6zmcx8lsykarvgl6lmgsz98eks2amgjn OMG, I had a conversation once with someone talking about, "we can populate Antarctica." So I asked her how she would feel about her kids playing outside on the ice and how easy it would be to build lasting homes.

nostr:npub16a3wq0x5ky070sp36ekmz3jwjqj7r2csgd0s97ym58tlvtfnshds6k9dah these people are so fucking ignorant. And the liveable temperate zones are changing. Foodways are eroding. This isn’t just a “we build some new communities in new places” thing. Drives me insane.

I mean, fuck, great, you heard an inspiring urban planner talk once. Good for you.

But we are at an “everything contributes, everything is a problem” phase.

Even electric vehicles are a BIG problem we are burying our heads in the sand about because all those batteries need to be solved somehow when they become obsolete.

Solar panels need recycling or reuse.

We do not have solutions for our “solutions.” The only thing that flat-out changes things is the end of fossil fuel & fewer people.
