Core-lightning architecture:
- Main daemon: lightningd
- Sub-daemons: hsmd, gossipd, connectd, etc.
- Plugins: arbitrary scripts to customize the node.
This follows UNIX philosophy: "Do one thing and do it well".
End-user nodes usually check it 3-4 times a day, so the idea is to have node spinning up just once the user comes online to use the node.
Optimization was done on start-up, spinning up in 1s, connecting to peers in a couple and be ready in a short amount of time.
Always-on is an illusion.

Greenlight is an attempt to onboard new users to Lightning without giving them all the burden of it from the beginning.
The goal is to provide a first onboarding onto Bitcoin ecosystem running the node for the user until he is ready to graduate to self-hosting.

How much of the growth of LN will be driven by other layers (cashu, ark, etc.) and how much to assets built on it?
Tx volume of stablecoins is way higher than the one of Bitcoin, so it probably will be the second.
Is the current low fee environment a sign of little demand for Bitcoin transactions or it is a hint on the fact that Lightning is scaling it? - Walton
Lightning seems not to be the best way to incentives systems like Tor or similar, since it is very good when it works, but it is really bad when it does not. - Calle
"Is the world relying too much on Tor for privacy? Aboslutely!" - Alex
The important part is to build privacy feature as soon as possible, and don't leave them for the future. We may not be able to build them later. - Evan
Lightning has a tendency to centralization, just like the internet, due to efficiency gains.
However, anyone can join the network on the same level as the others, contrary to the internet, which is more gated.
"Is Lightning the end? It's a mean to an end" - Alex
Graduated wallet seems to be a good UX solution, helping people building their Bitcoin knowledge step-by-step.
"People just expect to receive money, they do not want to go through liquidity and other stuff." - Shinobi
"It's not the best idea to onboard someone to Bitcoin with self-custodial Lightning solutions, costs are high and UX is not good enough", according to Calle.

"Why aren't more people running their own Lightning nodes?"
Skill issues, fear of losing funds, receiving on LN is actually effortless even without a node so there seems to be no actual reason to do so.

Peter Todd announces he is ready to grant a 420'000 sats bounty to the first person which can build a plugin to completely delete LND logs from Lightning nodes!
Why is all these data kept by nodes?
Tor, for example, does not log anything by default. Some VPNs are running on RAM-only infrastructure.
There seems to be no technical reason to keep all these data.

One of the goals for Lightning is privacy through Onion routing.
Old logs, however, remain in the node. Node are usually run in cloud providers, making them huge log honeypots.
