the view from the roof of our hot spring resort

this whole area of Beitou in Taiwan is known for its hot spring baths. there are tons of resorts in the area ranging from cheap public baths to luxury 5 star private rooms. there's something for everyone.

it has been said for thousands of years in many different cultures of the world that natural hot springs have healing properties. Now, whether it's true or not, the fact is that it is damn relaxing to soak in hot water.

a bloom emerges from muddy waters. when the flower dies back, it seems that beauty is gone but again, it emerges from the depths to bloom once more.

She should have written it in Traditional Chinese which is the official written language of Taiwan.

Simplified Chinese was developed by Communist China in the 50s by removing strokes.

Ximending is visited by mainly young people who are pro-Taiwan and seeing simplified characters is a major turn off because it screama CCP.

I saw a foreigner playing a steelpan drum on the streets of Ximending in Taipei today. What cool instrument! What a unique sound!

No one stopped to listen. No one paid attention. No one tipped her.

The reason? I surmise it is because of her sign. She hand wrote it in neatly Chinese letters, in simplified. It was just one character too.

It is so important to know your audience.

I love the use of this term precoiner.

Someone who hasn't heard of Bitcoin before isn't a nocoiner, they're a precoiner.

"think different" died at Apple in 2002 😬

I don't remember much of my education about money since college days. It's not really something I think about, except how to spend it πŸ˜† πŸ›οΈ

I did know that things that become money have to have specific attributes but not what they were or why they had to have those attributes. The author did a good job of explaining this and I really appreciated that. Seeing it spelled out made me think of a really good discussion question but it is better suited for next week so I'm saving it for then.

It was a short chapter and I've filled it with highlights now. I think I'll be referring back to it quite a bit when I need a refresher on basic money stuff.
